The last decade was an eventful time for MLB. With teams changing leagues and new talent emerging, there was a single name that fans were extremely excited to see. International players, especially from Japan, are not rare in the majors. But when rumors of a two-way talent from the East Asian country swirled, he was instantly famous. Shohei Ohtani was a baseball legend come to life, and the masses couldn’t wait to see him live.

In 2017, he shocked the country with the decision to sign with The Los Angeles Angels. Perhaps he was to be a one-man army who could put the decrepit team back on the map, even if injured. Almost six years later, no drastic changes have occurred, but some cannot help but look back on the good times. Especially a player who moved from the roster to make way for Shotime.

Carlos Perez Experiences MLB Revival With Oakland Athletics

Carlos Perez has spent the last five years with various teams’ minor league organizations. After being originally traded to The Atlanta Braves in 2018, the catcher went to Texas and Baltimore before landing in Oakland. After a short stint in Colorado, Perez had a second stint with the A’s minor leagues before going back to the majors on Opening Day 2023.

Meanwhile, Shohei Ohtani earned himself the reputation of one of the best players baseball had seen in generations. Unfortunately, a team unable to realize the full potential of his two-way talents surrounded him for that duration. For six years, while Perez fought to keep his big-league dream alive, Ohtani dominated the sport the only way he knew how – by playing excellent baseball.

The Athletic’s writer Sam Blum recently referred to Perez as an Angels ‘legend’ in a post on X, formerly Twitter. While the term may be loosely used, the A’s catcher had a powerful debut with the Angels in 2015. On May 5, Perez hit a walk-off home run against The Seattle Mariners to give the Angels a 5?4 victory.

While that will always be memorable for LA fans, most will perhaps remember him for his Shohei Ohtani sacrifice.

With the last few days of the season remaining, the Halos are losing to The Athletics. On Saturday, the team held a special ceremony to honor its top players with awards. As expected, Shohei Ohtani was the star of the show. The Japanese wonder had been spending time recovering from an arm surgery and right oblique tightness.

The injuries ended his season earlier than expected, but Shotime made one last appearance in the regular season for its last weekend. Showered with praises and standing ovations, The Angels honored him with the team MVP award. While it’s likely that Ohtani will also win the AL MVP this year, it was likely his last season in Halos red, and the team gave him an apt goodbye.
