Be it brawls in the ballparks or arguments with umpires, the game of baseball never disappoints its fans. Not long ago, the New York Mets’ veteran ace Max Scherzer was ejected from a game against the LA Dodgers. In the middle of the second inning, the Mets’ ace was asked to wash his hands with alcohol. And two innings after he did so in front of an MLB official, the umpire crew chief, Phil Cuzzi, ejected the 8x All-Star for having an illegal sticky substance on his glove. The ejection then led to a heating argument between Cuzzi and Scherzer. Although nothing came out of the argument, the Mets pitcher had to go back, and the case opened up for an investigation.
The outcome of the investigation saw MLB suspending Max Scherzer for ten games for having an excessively sticky substance on his hands. Following this, MLB released a statement on Scherzer’s suspension that had the reasoning for the said action. As soon as it came out on Twitter, fans started criticizing the umpires. It has baffled them for this being the only case of ejection and suspension for this reason.
The umpires are adamant about their case against Max Scherzer!

It was not the first time that umpires have raised their voices against too much stickiness or having rosin (legal to use) on players’ hands. And recently, when a similar case happened with the New York Yankees pitcher Domingo German, no said ejection or suspension occurred. Nothing major took place, even after over two interruptions amidst the game.
Hence, according to baseball fans, Scherzer’s case has gone too far, leading him to be suspended for 10 games despite the pitcher continuously saying that his hand was sticky because of rosin and sweat and nothing else.
From the MLB statement on Scherzer's suspension:
"Based on the umpires' training to detect rosin on a pitcher's hands, they concluded that the level of stickiness during the fourth inning check was so extreme that it was inconsistent with the use of rosin and/or sweat alone." pic.twitter.com/FpvzBvLpdS

However, according to MLB’s recent statement, the stickiness on Scherzer’s hands was a foreign substance only, and it had nothing to do with rosin or sweat alone. The statement read, “Based on the umpires’ training to detect rosin on a pitcher’s hands, they concluded that the level of stickiness during the fourth inning check was so extreme that it was inconsistent with the use of rosin and/or sweat alone.”
New York Mets fans are not happy!
Notably, baseball fans are questioning the umpires’ training that led Cuzzi to make this decision about the Mets’ ace. And since the umpires are losing their powers in the game, they are doing everything possible in their hands to have control still.
Following are some of the fans’ reactions towards the umpires making such a big claim on the highest-paid MLB player.
I can't wait for robo umps

Thats a pretty big claim.

Umpires can’t even train correctly to call balls and strikes and I’m supposed to believe they know what was on Max Scherezer’s hand?
— Justin (@JustMets26) April 20, 2023
Don’t care honestly if he was cheating or not there cannot only be 1 umpire doing this. Literally only 1 umpire has ever ejected someone for sticky stuff on checks is not okay.

Was it?
That “training” was probably a booze cruise

Many are hoping for it!
Scherzer’s a special case?
So that's why German gets a pass? Sounds like BS to me

Based on the fact that Scherzer is not a Yankee. There I fixed it for you. 🤬

While mocking the umpires and their training, fans are also calling out MLB for backing the umps at every incident. And also, they are taking their frustrations out on Scherzer being suspended when German was let go of this issue without any hassle.
