The umpire debate continues. MLB has seen much fan debate on the topic of umpires and how effective they truly are. Some argue that no one can do it better than humans while some are of the opinion that human emotions make umpires fallible. Since this is the 21st century, the case for robo umps has been strong because many believe they will do a better job. One such recent incident only added more fuel to the fire.

In an Atlantic League game, things went belly up when a batter threw his bat in that air and almost hit the ump. His ruling then sparked controversy on Twitter.

While games in the big leagues are better handled, some rulings in minor league games or college baseball leave fans furious. At a recent Atlantic League game, a batter threw his bat in frustration because he thought he had struck out. And an irate umpire, who almost got hit with it, ejected him.

Jomboy Media posted a detailed analysis of the situation on Twitter. The video starts with the host pointing out how the pitcher’s jersey shows a bunch of ‘fun’ question marks. As the game proceeds and the pitcher throws, James O’Brien continues, “Batter thinks it’s ball four, umpire says it’s strike two, batter throws the bat – that’s a big no-no.”

He speculates that the batter said something along the lines of, ‘It got stuck to my hand.‘ And that maybe the bat did spin a little extra as it flew through the air. The batter wasn’t necessarily throwing the bat at the umpire. But while it was unintentional, the bat did hit him and led to an ejection.

MLB fans are furious at an umpire yet again

While many considered the umpire’s position, most fans were furious at how he handled the situation. Some pointed out that the batter was maybe at fault but they thrashed the umpire nevertheless.

Some lashed out at the batter too.
