Nothing is clicking for the Diamondbacks at the moment. Every step they take seems to be going in the wrong direction. Although they still have a lot of games in hand, their ongoing struggles on the mound are hard to ignore. But the bigger story? Eugenio Suarez’s efforts have gone in vain as the team conceded a defeat by 7-8 against the Atlanta Braves, prompting fans to call for the Diamondbacks manager’s firing.
Despite the early struggles, Arizona Diamondbacks third baseman Eugenio Suarez put everything aside and posted four home runs on Saturday. Suarez hit it against Braves right-hander Grant Holmes, which gave them a lead, but Jalen Beeks gave away three runs, losing the lead. Now, fans are angry—some are demanding Torey Lovullo’s exit from the team.
Eugenio Suarez was the player to look out for in a game marked by terrific individual efforts and collective failures. Suarez is the first Venezuelan player to post four home runs in a major league game—a single shot in the first inning, followed by a two-run homer in the fourth and another single run in the sixth. So it was Suarez all the way, who displayed his impressive offensive power, despite having only two home runs in the last 23 games he played.

But according to baseball writer Bob Nightengale, “Atlanta gives up 4 HRs to Eugenio Suarez but still manages to win, 8-7, in 10 innings.” Something ought to be wrong, and it was a sheer disappointment. One of the fans expressed his disappointment, commenting, “How many more games does Lovullo need to mismanage before they fire him!! It’s the same thing every season!! #Dbacks.”

It is a direct dig at the manager because, despite Suarez trying his best, the team couldn’t win. More importantly, fans are blaming Torey Lovullo for his mismanagement, which eventually led to players giving away too many runs and losing the game. The reason is that, other than Suarez, center fielder Alek Thomas and shortstop Geraldo Perdomo were the only players to manage a hit across the seven innings. So, it’s crystal clear that the manager is under intense scrutiny.
However, fans are not on the same page, as they demand the immediate firing of Torey Lovullo.

Suarez’s efforts are going in vain, as the Diamondbacks’ loss sparks frenzy among the fans
The news of the loss after the heroic efforts of Suarez spread like wildfire, and soon fans started flooding social media with their criticism. Fans weren’t just angry—they do not want to see Lovullo again. “FIRE TOREY LOVULLO. #MLB #Dbacks.” The Diamondbacks are going nowhere—they have lost 13 games, and they are showing no good signs either. Arizona has fired four out of its eight managers, excluding Buck Showalter and Chip Hale. So, it’s nothing new; it may be a good decision considering the current situation the team is going through.

“When the D-backs don’t make the playoffs, it will be 100% on Torey Lovullo. Can’t wait to see people defend his decision to not bring in Justin Martinez for – *checks notes –* four outs instead of three,” read one X post. Clearly Torey is the scapegoat for the team not making it to the playoffs. He didn’t bring Justin Martinez to pitch for the Diamondbacks, which might have been the game-changing moment.

Then came more criticism: “We’re all witnesses to Torey Lovullo leaving his pitchers out there to die.” Clearly not happy with Lovullo for not bringing any good pitchers. Even before the game, Lovullo gave a clear indication of Martinez being ready on Tuesday, although he hasn’t pitched since April 17. “All indications are that he’s ready to go today, so far,” the manager said, but it didn’t happen.
Another comment came from an X user, who literally lambasted him, writing, “F— TOREY LOVULLO,” clearly shedding his frustration on how long everyone is going to defend his silly mistakes that are costing the games for the Diamondbacks, leaving fans hurt and angry.
Echoing a similar statement, “I really hope Torey Lovullo gets fired sooner than later. He is k–ling the team,” another fan wrote. He hopes that the quicker Lovullo gets fired, the better it will be for the team to find its way back to winning.
