Baseball has its fair share of highs and lows, but the recent happenings during the Cincinnati Reds and Baltimore Orioles game took the intensity to another level. Blame it on the poor decisions made by the umpires during the game, which led to the Orioles winning 9-5 against the Reds, leaving fans angry. What exactly was the cause behind such a stir?

The main point is that the MLB umpire, Marvin Hudson, missed eighteen calls, 12 of which went in favor of the Baltimore Orioles. Adding to the misery, fans are expressing their displeasure online over the umpire’s performance. Will the league consider preventing the umpire from working behind the plate?

It’s a rarity in professional sports that the officials get suspended. But looking at the game between the Reds and Orioles, a lot of questions come to mind. Umpire Marvin Hudson missed several calls, which eventually led to the Cincinnati Reds losing the game. However, such poor home plate umpiring has left fans demanding the dismissal of the umpire. One of them even commented, “Marvin Hudson is awful behind the plate. Awful.

It’s true that such kinds of mistakes often shape the outcome of the game. The error rate has been higher for specific pitch locations and strike counts. And missing eighteen calls is massive. Twelve of those calls favored the Orioles, while only 6 went in favor of the Reds. Fans are upset about this and are calling for MLB to fire Marvin Hudson right away.

Let’s take a look at what fans have to say.

Poor umpiring decisions leave fans in a frenzy

Right after the Cincinnati Reds lost the game against the Baltimore Orioles owing to the horrendous umpiring decisions, social media soon became a battlefield. “My goodness, this umpire crew has been horrible this entire series,” one of the fans commented on X. And yes, it’s not the first time something like this happened. The error rate has become much higher along with the incorrect call ratio.

Another X user came up with a similar kind of response: “This umpire has been god awful #reds.” The user took a dig at Marvin Hudson, who missed multiple calls, and most of them helped the Orioles to win the game against the Reds. Considering that every player tries to give it their all, that is a really unfortunate situation. And when a poor choice is made, the team as a whole is disappointed, not just the supporters. Do we really need a change, or will it be better to oust Marvin Hudson?

While this kind of error is never a good thing in a big match, it’s also true that the higher authorities should make a decision to ensure that it doesn’t happen again. Apparently an X user demanded his retirement, saying, “Hey @MLB It might be time to tell Marvin Hudson that it’s time to retire. He has no idea what a strike is. I am convinced he can’t even see the ball.” Although blaming an umpire for not watching a ball might be a mistake, it cannot be denied that Hudson’s overall accuracy has been just 91 percent. A majority of borderline balls were called strikes by the umpire.

Criticizing the poor umpiring decisions, a funny comment came from a fan, who said, “Woowwww, if I’m Terry Francona, I’m going to war with Marvin Hudson. But way to paint, Yennier!” The fan puts himself in the place of Terry Francona, the manager of the Cincinnati Reds, hoping that it would have been a war between him and the umpire. However, Francona remained calm, accepting the defensive problems that led to the loss.

However, amid the chaos, a commenter came up with a sensible response: “Horrendous home plate umpire in #Reds game. Fix this shit, @MLB @MLBUmpireCrews. Get robots. This is a travesty.” For him, the use of robots in MLB could be a game-changer. It would increase the accuracy rate, helping to track the ball with precision, and also promote faster game time without wasting time in lengthy reviews.

Still, whatever the result may be, the fans did experience a game that made some of them happy while others were sad.
