Despite choosing to live life out of the spotlight, Captain Clutch Derek Jeter gives a sneak peek into his personal life every now and then. One perfect example of the same would be Jeter himself announcing the birth of his fourth kid, Kaius Green Jeter. Another example would be when Derek released his book, Jeter Unfiltered, shortly after bidding farewell to the game in 2014.

The book contains moments and stories of Jeter’s last year with the Yankees and some blasts from the past. In the same book, the 5x World Champ also revealed a spring training tradition that he followed with one of his closest friends, Jorge Posada.

Jeter and Posada both made their MLB debut in the year 1995. Then the two went on to play for seventeen seasons together, building a stronger than-ever friendship. Posada might not have been part of Core Four, but together Jeter and he did win four World Series. Their friendship went beyond the breeze of the ballparks.

Hence, when Jeter released his book after getting retired, Jorge Posada was a name that occurred many times in it. However, about the spring training tradition, Derek wrote, “I used to always look for Jorge Posada first when I showed up for spring training because he was my closest friend on the team. He and I had a spring training tradition: on the last day we would order a bunch of Hooters chicken wings, then we’d drive to Baskin-Robbins and get ice cream. Not exactly what a nutritionist would advise, but we weren’t telling.”

Seems like even Captain Clutch did not abide by the rules every single time. However, these words demonstrate the closeness between Derek and Jorge when they were teammates and friends.

Jeter and Posada are no less than brothers!

The role that Jeter played at his closest friend’s wedding could easily describe how close Derek and Jorge were. Jeter became Jorge’s best man at his wedding. Generally, either brothers or closest friends receive this honor.

Also, this was yet another example of showing how close the two athletes were at one point of time in their lives.
