Harper had arranged for Turner to present him with a bat revealing the baby’s gender—pink for a girl or blue for a boy—before his first at-bat. Turner, who had gotten a text verifying the baby’s sex, first grabbed the pink bat. He swung it lightly to tease Harper, who thought they were having a girl. Then, with a big smile, he handed over the blue bat to indicate that a baby boy was on the way. The planning was not that easy, though.
When asked, Turner said, “I was confused at first, but I think he wanted to share that moment with us.” He acknowledged the creative idea of Harper and said, “I think it was pretty cool. He’s a pretty creative guy. He let us know in our team meeting. He kind of wanted to share the moment with everybody… I thought it was a nice moment for him and his family. I think they were all watching here from up top.”
