Former Chicago Cubs pitcher Marcus Stroman openly confessed his wish to play for the New York Yankees. The move, however, is unlikely to materialise due to Stroman’s negative comments, which pulled the Bronx away. Still, given that the experienced pitcher has all the 2009 champions need, a deal could, nevertheless, happen. This brings his agent, Brodie Van Wagenen, into the picture, who has a task to fulfill.

Notably, Van Wagenen has known Stroman for years, having managed him in the past after trading for him. Now, he is doing the same but in a different role. The two share plenty of mutual respect for each other, and this might become a reason for Wagenen doing his earnest to fulfill the 2x All-Star’s wish.

The life journey of Brodie Van Wagenen has shifted from one frame to the other on multiple occasions. The retired baseball player is now active in the representative industry, after making it into the agency market with Randy Flores as his first client. Interestingly, early on, he also had a brief stint as a sales associate with the NBA’s Chicago Bulls.

However, his real shot came when he joined the CAA as a Co-Head of the Baseball division. He made it into the Sports Business Journal’s 40 Under 40 list in 2012 due to his contribution in deals worth more than $1.25 billion and over $100 million in endorsement deals. But he again switched places and signed for the New York Mets as a general manager in 2016.

Brodie Van Wagenen worked with the Mets until 2020 and was part of the many deals. It included Marcus Stroman’s arrival at the Queens. He then returned to the representative industry. Wagenen is now a Roc Nation executive and has been managing Marcus Stroman, with whom he shares a great relationship since 2023. But can he add more to it a year later by agreeing with the Yankees?

Currently out of contract, Marcus Stroman wants the Yankees as his next team. If he gets a deal, Strom might get a similar contract from his past, where he earned $25 million a year. However, that would need a change of stance from the Bronx. Can Brodie Van Wagenen bring that? Well, if the past is analyzed, his relationship with Yankees GM Brian Cashman brings in positives.

According to northjersey.com, Cashman has praised him, “I know my experience with Brodie has always been good. Great to deal with, always very transparent, always available.” Though years have passed since the statement was made. But it can help Stroman have his wish fulfilled.
