Brian Cashman’s views have been doing the rounds since the GM Meeting last week in Scottsdale. While most of his comments have been about analytics and player developments, this particular one was more personal. As he talks of Giancarlo Stanton, a “behind closed doors” kinda opinion has enraged the fans. But what does this mean for the 34-year-old?

Well, given Stanton’s career at the moment, Cashman did not seem too enthusiastic about keeping him on the field. Or so he portrayed. As the Yankees GM made harsh comments about this key team player, he also predicted the 2010 debutant’s play, “He’s going to wind up getting hurt again”.

Being quite an unconventional thing to say about his own team’s 5x All-Star, Brian Cashman said that they would limit the time he’s hurt. However, he taunted that Stanton would not play every game in 2024. He is ‘injury-prone’. He added, “He’s going to wind up getting hurt again more likely than not because it seems to be part of his game. Turns out, the General Manager made these controversial comments based on the DH and outfielder’s performance in the recent past.

Giving his sneer a positive tone, Cashman added, “But I know that when he’s right and healthy – other than this past year – the guy’s a great hitter and has been for a long time”. While he did cover up the jibe, his words portrayed the dismal emotion of Stanton no longer resembling the 2x Silver Slugger; one of the league’s most dangerous hitters, that he was. Albeit his performance of late, one expects a display of trust from the GM. But that was not the case here.

Since 2019, Stanton has only participated in 391 out of 708 possible regular season games. Which is barely over half; 55% of the total. 2023 saw the worst season of his career. He hit.191/.275/.420 in 101 games with 24 home runs. If one thought 2023 was bad, this 2x Hank Aaron Award winner’s 2022 would surpass it. In 110 games last year, Stanton, hit.211/.297/.462 with 31 home runs. With that, his underperformance coupled with injuries compromised Cashman’s trust in him. Despite that, the right-handed hitter is a favorite among the New York Yankees and fans for many reasons.

Fans’ Common Emotion About Brian Cashman’s Future Plans With The Yankees

As a result of the GM for over 25 years enraging the Yankees faithful with his not-so-professional outlook, social media flooded with wrath. Doubts about Stanton’s future with the Yanks loomed amid hate comments on Cashman for being “such a d*ck”.

One fan commented on Brian Cashman’s belief about his job, “feeling more bulletproof about his job security”.

Another fan called him names, “d*ck”.

There were fans who called out Cashman for being a man with “unlimited power and 0 accountability”.

Few fans even called him an “embarrassment” to himself.

Amid many negative comments, one fan lauded Cashman for acknowledging the problem at hand.

While fans did acknowledge Stanton’s decline, they did not appreciate the fact that he made unwarranted comments on the man who has been a key player for the NYY over the years.
