The New York Yankees are ringing in the Fourth of July with a bang. For the 14th edition of HOPE Week, the team is honoring individuals for their contribution to society in one field or another. One such personality is Buffalo Bills’ safety, Damar Hamlin. Earlier this year, the NFL world went through a heart-stopping incident when Hamlin collapsed on the field of a cardiac arrest.
Ever since recovering, the 25-year-old has been raising awareness about health training for moments of crisis. His latest stop was Yankee Stadium, where he participated in CPR training. While the process of learning was intense, a moment involving youngster Anthony Volpe brought some hilarity to the situation.

The Yankees’ young player has had a rollercoaster of a rookie season. While 2023 started great, Volpe went through a rather prolonged slump. Now he’s back, better than ever, inspiring even more hope in fans. On the first day of HOPE Week, he was one of several Yankees who participated in CPR training with medical professionals. A clip from the team’s official Instagram story shows Volpe aggressively working to revive a manikin during practice. One can also see some other people around him doing the same, except with less vigor.

Talkin’ Yanks posted the clip to Twitter with the caption, “I’m crying Volpe really thought he was saving someone’s life.” As expected, the post elicited some hilarious responses from fans.
New York Yankees fans can’t help but be amused by Volpe
Interestingly, the rookie player is the son of two doctors. While his father, Michael Volpe, is an urologist, his mother, Isabelle Volpe, is an anesthesiologist. While fans had some fun at his expense, some couldn’t help but mock the Yankees’ latest performances- or lack thereof. Because, ever since Aaron Judge went on the IL, the team’s offense has suffered tragically.

He’s the son of doctors. It’s in his blood!

However, many with personal experience also pointed out that Volpe was right in his aggression.
This is the right way to do it. Not saving anyone if you’re not depressing their chest wall by 2 inches

I survived 23 minutes of CPR last year. I was told one reason was one of the people giving me that CPR was my orthopedic doctor … because he was so strong. Cracked my ribs, but I survived the cardiac arrest & without any brain injury (ok, my wife's not so sure about that part)

Many stood in his support, while a few still had jokes.
He’s doing it properly, which is great. Bad CPR is basically equivalent to no CPR. High quality CPR (even in simulation… they won’t pass you if you dont do it properly during simulation) saves lives!

While the situation on social media seems to have gotten a bit out of hand, the youngster really seemed to care about what he was learning. After all, as a fan pointed out, it’s in his blood!
