After Aaron Judge’s signing reached its expected and congruous fulfillment, the biggest free agent in the market was shortstop and world champion, Carlos Correa. After the conclusion of the winter meetings, the San Francisco Giants stood on top of all other Correa suitors. However, subsequent rumors suggested that the New York Yankees would also entertain the bidding war.
But that does not seem to be the case anymore, as the former Twins shortstop has chosen his destination. And it’s not the Yankees!

Eventually, reports of the New York Mets, Twins, Cubs, and even the Red Sox joined the Giants and Yankees in the Correa chase. But this chase has come to an end as most recent reports suggest that the two-time All-Star has signed a lucrative contract with the Giants at a price very close to Aaron Judge’s deal.
Is Carlos Correa going to the Golden City?
As reported by MLB insider Mark Feinsand, Carlos Correa reportedly agreed to a 13-year deal worth $350 million with the San Francisco Giants. Additional rumors also suggest that the deal could include a no opt-out and a full no-trade clause.

After playing with the Houston Astros for seven seasons and winning one World Championship in 2017, Correa signed a three-year $105 million deal with the Minnesota Twins in 2022. The deal included an opt-out clause after the first two years of the contract. And he availed of that clause after 2022 and entered free agency.
Now, as he has bagged himself an unbelievably strong 13-year deal, New Yorkers compared it to Aaron Judge‘s price and claimed that it’s not worth it. Dodgers’ fans, on the other hand, reignited the SF-LA rivalry (Notably, Correa played a dominant role in the Astros beating the Dodgers in the 2017 World Series).
This is how fans reacted to the news of Carlos Correa moving to San Francisco:

Barry Zito was a high bar to get over, but he kept them alive in 2014. One World Series title is all it takes.

Multiple other fans spoke about the logic behind this deal as it would extend to a 41-year-old Correa. And his health would significantly impact his future with the Giants at approximately $27 million per year.
Ultimately, who won the battle between the Giants and the Yankees?
The New York Yankees signed Aaron Judge for $360 million, to a nine-year deal. Judge, who smashed 62 homers and broke Roger Maris’ record, could also be the future Yankees captain. Given Judge’s established abilities and caliber, $360 million was only justified.

Correa, for that matter, is amongst the best shortstops in the MLB currently, which would only mean that his price is justified too. The only way this debate will be settled is when the 2023 season begins. Evidently, the Giants chose to spend the same amount of money on Correa, instead of Judge.
