Derek Jeter and the Late Muhammad Ali are two global sporting icons and probably the greatest representatives of their sports. Both dominated their respective fields, gaining superstardom and reaching an all-time great status. If Jeter was a sight of grace on the baseball diamond, Ali epitomized ferocity within the boxing ring.

Though the two sports have not the least in common, Jeter and Ali once shared space, back in 2004.

Both Jeter and Ali, however, shared a lot in common. They were extremely passionate about their sport and only cared about victory, settling for nothing less. But at the same time, they also had a very level-headed approach toward achieving their goals. So honors came in plenty for both of them.

Jeter and Ali shared the frame on a baseball ground, long back in the year 2004. It was the MLB All-Star game at Minute Maid Park. Ali was the special guest for the ceremonial pitch. Even the crowd got a moment that would possibly live with them forever.

While Derek Jeter and all the other MLB All-Stars awaited in anticipation, Muhammad Ali made his way to the ground. By that time, Ali already developed health issues, fighting his battles with Parkinson’s disease. Yet he walked up to the mound and showed some air-boxing moves before throwing the ceremonial pitch.

After the pitch, Jeter walked up to Ali, and the boxing legend jokingly threw air punches at the MLB icon. Players from both the All-Star teams then came together for a group photograph with Ali. The American League All-Stars won the game by defeating the National League All-Stars on a 9-4 margin. Alfonso Soriano received the All-Star MVP award.

Whether you’re in this country or not in this country, everybody knows Muhammad Ali is The Greatest for not only in the ring but everything he did outside.”

Jeter loyally played out his entire MLB career as the New York Yankees shortstop from 1995 to 2014. He made as many as 14 All-Star appearances during that time period.
