The year 1986 was an exemplary one for the New York Mets. Aside from bringing the World Series trophy home for the second time, some other great moments also took place that year for the Mets. It was said that, in the 1980s, the Mets were one of the most notorious MLB teams.

And thus, one of the greatest heavyweight boxers, Mike Tyson, decided to pay a visit to the Shea Stadium to talk to the team about all the bean fights. Years later, heavyweight champion Tyson Fury came back to give the Mets a lesson.

When the boxing champion, Mike Tyson came to the Stadium, he was greeted by the NY Mets’ stars Dwight Gooden and Darryl Strawberry. It was when the infamous picture of the baseball and boxing world colliding got created. Fast forward three decades later, Fury recreated that picture with two Mets players.

Who did Tyson Fury teach a lesson?

When the former unified heavyweight champion, Tyson Fury, made rounds in NYC in 2019, he decided to pay a visit to ESPN studios and Citi Field Stadium. Notably, Shea Stadium got closed in 2008. Therefore, the recreation could not take place, as it originally happened in 1986.

Fury hung out all day at Citi Field and got snapped with many players. But he did not forget to recreate the infamous collision. With the Mets’ Noah Syndergaard and Pete Alonso, Fury posed as if he was playfully punching Syndergaard under his jaw while Alonso laughingly tried to stop the duo.

From the looks of it, athletes enjoyed greeting Fury on the field. And the heavyweight champion seemed to have a great time rounding up New York City.

How did the Mets play the 2022 season?

The Mets were considered to have probably the most expensive roster. And somehow, they managed to get a playoff berth in the Wild Card. They did so after winning over a hundred games in the regular season. It was the combined efforts of stars like Scherzer, Lindor, Alonso, and Díaz which led the team to its second-winningest season in history.

Unfortunately, they could not manage to win against the San Diego Padres in the Wild Card Series. Not only did the Mets lose, but they also became the first team in MLB history to produce only one hit in a winner-take-all playoff game. Hence, their race to lift their third World Series trophy ended when they got swooped up by the Padres.
