“Would’ve Been a Bi*ch”: New York Yankees Great Derek Jeter on How He Would’ve Felt if Alex Rodriguez Became His Actual MLB Enemy

Ever since MLB icon Alex Rodriguez signed the biggest contract in MLB history in 2000, the dynamics of his friendship with Captain Clutch Derek Jeter changed forever. The two of them went from being best friends to rivals in a short span of time. However, the dynamics were once again at crossroads when A-Rod was about to sign with the Boston Red Sox. Rodriguez was willing to accept a huge pay cut to go to the Red Sox and had MLB not cut right into the middle, he would have gone through with the deal.

If the deal really had gone through, A-Rod and Jeter would have become literal enemies because of the century-old iconic rivalry between the New York Yankees and the Boston Red Sox.

But as fate would have it, the deal with the Red Sox failed. And with it, Alex ‘A-Rod’ Rodriguez’s time as a shortstop also ended. He began his journey as a third baseman for the Bronx Bombers. And the rest is history. However, it does not stop one from thinking about what would have happened if Alex had gone to the Red Sox. In his seven-part documentary, Captain Clutch talked about his feelings about A-Rod becoming his actual enemy.

Considering the rivalry between the Red Sox and Yankees, fortunately for Jeter and A-Rod, the deal did not take place. Because whatever the differences A-Rod and Jeter had between them, would have probably only increased.

While talking about the alternate reality where the trade would have happened, the Hall of Famer said,?“It would have been a bi*ch with him in Boston. It really would have been.”

However, aside from completely changing his personal relationship, the Yanks would not have had such a fantastic player among them.?

How did Jeter and A-Rod become frenemies?

Jeter first met A-Rod during a college game, and Rodriguez was still in high school. Soon as they met, they became friends, and their friendship became strong enough that they were even teased about being each other’s better halves.?

But when A-Rod signed the contract with Rangers, in an interview, he said that anyone could compete with him with a contract as big as his, but not Jeter. It was the start, and till now, there have been many incidents talking about their friendship. However, from the looks of it, things have now changed, and the two of them are now on better terms.
