Major League Baseball has no shortage of talented players. To most of them, age is just a number. Whether their biological clock reads high or low, skilled players are all around. And recently, one of them finally made his big league debut with the Miami Marlins, the team previously owned by former Yankee Derek Jeter.
Eury Perez, not to be confused with the former New York Yankees player, just made history as one of the youngest players in the league. Interestingly, he officially left his teens behind just last month and has yet to pitch in Triple-A. The youngest pitcher since Julio Urias, Perez is easily among the best prospects in the entire league.

Eury Perez becomes the first Major League Baseball player to be born in 2003
As it so happens, 2003 is special for the Marlins – it was the year of their second World Series win. The franchise has not won a championship since then. Will Perez bring them out of this funk? Despite his lack of experience, he is ready to hit the ground running. In his fiery debut against the Cincinnati Reds on Friday, the pitcher struck out seven batters and allowed two runs over 4 2/3 innings.

If Perez keeps up this performance, he could be added to the roster for good. Watching him pitch his first MLB game was Perez’s family, cheering loudly. The Dominican player has a long way to go still, but he knows he will always have the support of his loved ones.

Perez keeps a heart shaved on his head to keep his family close
Rising up to the biggest stages always requires the help and support of family and friends. They even celebrated his big moment together, cheering for him from home. Perez considers himself lucky to have them and keeps a heart shape on his head. When someone asked him what it was all about, he had a sweet answer.
Via interpreter Luis Dorante Jr., the young player said, “It’s the love of my family. I have it right there on top of my head so I have them really close to me, really present to me. They never had the opportunity to watch me pitch [professionally] before, so I always have them really close.”
