Toronto Blue Jays are just coming off a 92-win season where they made the postseason. But unfortunately, they were knocked out of the playoffs in the Wild Card Series. During the postseason, some expected the Blue Jays to add to their roster, but that didn’t happen.

The Toronto-based team has been quiet during the off-season, choosing to go into 2023 with a mostly unchanged roster. In fact, the team has mostly been signing their players to deals in order to avoid arbitration. Most recently, they signed one of their star players to a new contract, successfully avoiding arbitration. But it seems like the Blue Jays fans did not see this coming.

Most recently, the Blue Jays agreed on a deal with 2021 All-Star shortstop Bo Bichette. The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal reported the news stating that it was a 3-year pact worth a guaranteed $33.6 million. He reported the news via Twitter.

In the Tweet, Rosenthal said, “Bo Bichette’s with the Blue Jays is $33.6m guaranteed for three years, source tells @TheAthletic. No options. Escalators and awards can bring three-year total to as much as $40.65M.” Bichette was an All-Star in 2021 and had a good 2022 season as well.

But no matter what the reaction has been, Bichette is a solid piece and will probably outperform this deal. This deal will cover the rest of his years under arbitration, following which he will be eligible for free agency.

Bo Bichette has the tools to be a regular All-Star

The reason that this deal can be a good one for the Blue Jays is that Bo Bichette has the potential to be a multi-time All-Star. According to MLB.com, “The free-swinging shortstop is a perennial All-Star candidate when he’s at his best.”
