Something huge has been brewing with the Toronto Blue Jays, but not everyone is buying the hype. A star of the franchise is under the stirring rumors of his massive contract extension. But strangely enough, this news has failed to spark excitement among fans. If anything, it has just raised eyebrows and skepticism. 26-year-old Vladimir Guerrero Jr. is one of the biggest names on the Blue Jays roster. And not very long ago, he was viewed as the face of Toronto’s new era. Now, around the whispers of the contract extension announcement, fans are more in doubt than in delight.

Hector Gomez shared on X that a source close to Guerrero Jr. revealed that by the coming weekend, the Blue Jays could make the extension official. Guerrero is nearing the end of his current contract. He will hit the free agency market in November 2025, the already sky-high stakes couldn’t be any higher for him and the Blue Jays both.

Yancen Pujols, who has interviewed Guerrero several times, further confirmed the speculations, stating, “People close to the situation are telling me this: Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and the Toronto Blue Jays have made a lot of progress towards a 500 million dollars deal.”

He brought along a piece of additional information that Guerrero Jr.’s potential contract extension might not just be long-term; it could stretch over 14 years! If this deal goes through, it looks like Guerrero Jr. is here to stay in Toronto for the foreseeable future.

However, this couldn’t stop the strange skepticism stemming among the fans. They are questioning whether Guerrero can really hold the weight of the franchise for the upcoming decade or not. They’re questioning everything—from his price tag to whether he’s even the right fit anymore. Not to mention, this news is coming post-March offer of a jaw-dropping 14 to 15-year contract worth between $550 and $600 million.

For now, all the eyes are on the Blue Jays till they make the announcement. Till then, the fans will be cautiously curious.

The Blue Jays fans question the value of Guerrero Jr.’s extension

The Blue Jays’ front office might be gearing up to announce the massive contract extension with Guerrero Jr., but are the fans delighted about it? Not even a little. They have blown up the internet with their brutal, sharp, and critical takes on this.

One fan raised questions about his performance and consistency, “Vlad Jr is very inconsistent, I don’t think he deserves a max contract. he has proven he can’t carry a team.” It’s definitely a brutal take against Guerrero. Even though he has been the key piece of the Blue Jays, fans are convinced that he has lacked consistency and focus.

On the other hand, some believe it’s all pointless and he won’t be re-signing, saying, “He ain’t resigning. Blue Jays can offer 800m and he will still sign elsewhere. It’s inevitable.” This was a serious doubt around Guerrero’s long-term commitment to the Blue Jays.

While some were sugarcoating, there were others who decided to be bluntly honest, saying, “He’s not worth that.” The underlying frustration among the fans is very much evident after so many reported negotiations.

Although the official announcement hasn’t been made yet, fans have already taken their stance—they’re not happy about it anymore. Some undermined his overall worth and declared that he isn’t worth praising. As one fan wrote, “Big mistake I’d let him go, he’s not worth what he’s asking for. He did nothing last year worth praising him for.” Surprisingly, many questions were raised about his overall worth. And many believe that he doesn’t deserve a contract worth between $550 and $600 million.
