One of the most talked about Scott Boras clients has been signed! The 31-year-old southpaw Blake Snell is en route to the Bay Area to join the San Francisco Giants. It was not long ago that the discussion surrounding where ‘Snellzilla’ would land this season was peaking. However, now, the marathon is finally over. Blake Snell is a Giant.

Jon Heyman shared a tweet sharing the details of the acquisition. His post read, “Breaking: Snell to the Giants. $62M, 2 years. Opt out.” Clearly, this is a short-term deal with opt-out options – the same approach that the Chicago Cubs took with Cody Bellinger.

With this lefty pitcher off the market, the only Boras top-tier client pending to be signed is Jordan Montgomery. Yes, we’re deep into Spring Training, but Snell’s late signing might hint at open doors for Monty too. While one celebrates Snell joining the Giants, one must wait and watch to see how the story unfurls with ‘Gumby’.

Speaking of the Boras Clients it’s important to highlight how the others got assigned and the kind of contracts they signed. Bellinger, one of the sought-after arms went back to the Chicago Cubs on a three-year, $80 million deal. And another of the Boras-four, Matt Chapman signed with the Giants for three years. His contract value is $54 million contract. Both Bellinger and Chapman have the option to opt out of their contracts after each campaign. And that’s similarly how it worked out for Snell.

Stats Worth Considering – Blake Snell in 2023

The 2023 season was quite something for Snell. He struck out 234 batters and posted a 2.25 ERA in 180 innings. He was great in the final four months last season, having pitched to a 1.20 ERA. Furthermore, he held opponents to a .156/.273/.217 batting line in his last 23 starts. The Cy Young award winner allowed only 19 runs in those starts. Keeping openers aside, this is the lowest runs allowed in a 23-start period in the history of baseball.

R.J. Anderson of the CBSSports said, “There’s no knocking his bat- or barrel-missing abilities, but his control leaves a lot to be desired. He threw fewer than 60% strikes this season, and his walk rate was nearly one of the 20 highest posted by a starting pitcher in the Expansion Era.” and more. With that, one question arises. Did Snell get what he deserved or is there something Boras could have done to get a better deal? Something to think about.
