San Francisco Giants fans were upset when Blake Snell opted out of his contract and signed with the Los Angeles Dodgers. Losing such a key player to a rival is a tough pill to swallow, and while Snell exited, it had another sting. He had skipped his final start of the season, calling it a “meaningless” game. Sure, his not starting didn’t affect the playoff standings, but fans value competition and grit, and that attitude left a sour taste.

However, while fans must have expected the same reaction from Giants pitcher Logan Webb, it was far from the same. He took the high road, and in his appearance at the Chris Rose Rotation, he focused more on the team’s future. He even made a subtle pitch to Corbin Burnes to join the Giants, a move that could bolster the team. But then Burnes’s name is coming forth directly because of Snell’s exit. Snell spent only a year in San Francisco, but his move to LA sure is stinging most. But Webb isn’t mad about him signing with the Dodgers, saying he understands the situation.

Giants fans may boo Blake Snell every time he steps in the Dodger blue. But Logan Webb isn’t ready to join the boo brigade. When Chris Rose asked if he reached out to Snell after he signed a $182 million deal with the Dodgers, his response was surprisingly candid. “I’m happy for Blake, man. Works his a** off, great teammate. I’m obviously not excited that he went there, but I don’t know how you can turn down a $52 million signing bonus. I’m not mad at him for that,” mentioned Webb. Plus, he also mentioned Snell is a father and that he is happy for him. He reminded everyone that rivalries don’t run as deep for players as they do sometimes for fans.

Logan Webb circled back to Blake Snell after discussing Juan Soto and the Yankees again. And he mentioned that Blake is going to be his friend for the rest of his life. “When I see a guy like that get paid what he deserves, I’m gonna be happy for him.” Sure, Webb admitted he is a Giants fan too, and he didn’t want Snell to go to the Dodgers, but now that that’s done, he won’t just stop talking to his friend. He said that fans might not like it, but at least he is true to himself.

At the end of the day, players like Logan Webb don’t dwell on the drama. Plus, Blake Snell was a well-liked person in the clubhouse, and so even in that heat of rivalry, respect truly seems to triumph all.

Blake Snell’s reaction to joining the Dodgers

Blake Snell didn’t leave anyone guessing this off-season after opting out of his Giants contract. He swiftly signed with the LA Dodgers. And at his introductory press conference, he didn’t hesitate to mention that it was a really easy decision for him to come to. With a grin, Snell said, “It was really easy. I and [girlfriend Haeley Mar] wanted to live here—it’s something we’ve been talking about for a while. Then you look at the team, what they’ve built, what they’re doing. It’s just something you want to be a part of.” And truly, with a lineup like the Dodgers, who wouldn’t want to move into their team?

They have Shohei Ohtani, Mookie Betts, Freddie Freeman, Max Muncy, and Yoshinobu Yamamoto. The list just goes on. However, it wasn’t just the roster that sealed the deal for Snell. He made a request first thing to Andrew Friedman: put his locker next to Clayton Kershaw’s. He is a fan of the veteran and cannot wait to learn from him. “He’s just done so many amazing things in his career. So for me to talk to him, pick his brain, and learn from all his experience, I’m really excited. To learn from a guy like that is, I mean, you can’t ask for more,” said Kershaw, mentioning that this isn’t just a stop in his career but where he plans to finish it too.
