The Blake Snell sweepstakes have been buzzing as of late, with several teams interested in the 2023 NL Cy Young winner. This is a new development as the talks surrounding the lefty ace had been somewhat quiet in the early stages of the off-season business. But now, interest is building, with the Los Angeles Angels being surprisingly linked to Snell.

This is not that big of a surprise considering the team lost their ace and best hitter with Shohei Ohtani joining their LA rivals. The team was connected to a number of pitchers but with more signings being completed, the market is shrinking. Furthermore, with the Cincinnati Reds’ latest addition, the Angels’ pursuit of Snell becomes more likely.

In a surprise addition, the Cincinnati Reds signed former New York Yankees pitcher Frankie Montas. This impacts the Angels, as Frankie Montas was a rotation arm that might have been a good option for them. But now, with him joining the Reds, a deal for Blake Snell becomes more likely. The Anaheim-based team has been linked to Snell in recent weeks but a concrete negotiation has not yet taken place.

It is likely that the Angels will look at other hurlers as well, but Snell is an attractive option for the team. With Shohei Ohtani gone, he will provide them with ace-level pitching. Furthermore, a short-term deal may be even more of an attractive option for the team.

The build-up to Snell’s signing will be getting closer and closer as the days go by. With a lack of top pitching options available and multiple teams on the hunt, it is likely to be a massive deal. Especially for a reigning Cy Young winner. But progress to a deal is still cloudy at the moment.

A deal for Snell will still take some time

Even with the dwindling top pitching options, the Blake Snell sweepstakes have not seen a clear or concrete offer yet. Although several teams such as the Angels and San Francisco Giants have been linked, no team has made that next step. It will be interesting to see how Snell’s market develops in the coming weeks.
