The New York Yankees are narrowing down their choices amidst a crucial race for starting pitching. While many teams vie for the best hurlers, the Bombers have now somewhat defined the final 2 names on their list. Although Shota Imanaga has dominated their choices at times and seemed like the most likely option, that has now changed.

This shift comes after weeks of deliberation and thought by the team. Now, a final decision needs to be made as the pitching market starts to buzz. With the Bombers getting closer to a final decision, negotiations will begin between the Yankees and its chosen pitcher.

The New York Yankees have seemingly shortlisted Blake Snell and Jordan Montgomery as their choices for starting pitching this off-season. In the process, they recently dropped out of the Shota Imanaga sweepstakes. Concrete negotiations are yet to take place, but as the off-season progresses, the Yankees will have their man.

For some time Montgomery appeared to be the frontrunner to sign with the Bombers and rejoin them. But now Snell has seemingly taken the lead as the team’s primary choice. There is still time before a final decision is made and negotiations take place. But at the moment, either deal could come true.

Montgomery appears to be the safer choice and has had better health, starting 30 games or more in each of the last 3 seasons. Snell on the other hand is the reigning NL Cy Young winner and adds star quality but with some definite concerns. It will be interesting to see how things develop over the coming weeks as the New York Yankees make a choice.

What are the Yankees’ concerns over Snell?

Blake Snell is an ace-level pitcher. But inconsistency and an inability to pitch long games are concerns that the New York Yankees and other teams will have. He pitched more than 130 innings for only the second time in his career this year and the first time since 2018. Furthermore, he has also recorded ERAs over 4 twice in the last 5 seasons. These concerns and more are reasons the Yankees may hesitate.
