Blake Snell is one of the best top guns in this free agency. The highlight however was his Cy Young award which makes him a commendable name in the world of MLB. In a recent conversation with MLB.com’s Adnan Virk, he shared his secret to being “humble”.
It’s safe to say that no MLB player dons a “laid-back demeanor” the way this 31-year-old does. While his life experiences have taught him humility and composure, he gives it his own meaning by being ‘Mr. “I just take it for what it is“’.

When Blake Snell got talking about his NL Cy Young Award, the accolades and epic moments flowed freely. A lot of what Snell is today is because of his past situations. Upon being asked about what makes him so composed, he shared, “I’ve just been in a lot of situations before, so I just take it for what it is and it’s just who I am.. I don’t really take anything too serious”, both on and off the field. Well if that’s not maturity then what is?
That said, being the first pitcher since Early Wynn to win a Cy Young Award leading the Majors in walks Snell spoke about the award presented by Jack Peavey. He stated, “..it definitely means a lot”. He further addressed how it was being the 7th pitcher in history to have won the Cy Young Award in both leagues. The names on that list are, as Adnan Virk described it “truly illustrious”. What the southpaw said was nothing short of awestriking.
Snell said, “I don’t think about it. I got a long career left, you know if I could stay healthy and do everything the right way and keep getting better like I plan on doing so I won’t look at it now. But hopefully, later I’ll be able to take it for what it is”. Now that’s his humility doing the talking.

In the ideal scenario, per Forbes.com, the free agent could land a deal worth at least $30 million annually on average. The number of years in the contract presents a challenge though. Sources like Bob Nightengale of USA Today say that the New York Yankees’ $150 million, six-year contract is the only one the former Padre received. While that is a figure roughly $12 million lesser than Carlos Rodón, the LHP’s next destination remains cloudy.
