Whether you are a Yankee or not, the Bronx is a scary place to be in. The bleachers are always harsh. And if you are a 33-year-old outfielder who signed a 70 million contract and is batting at a poor 0.231 throughout his Yankee career, you are bound to find yourself on the wrong side of this Bronx support. That is the tale of Aaron Hicks.
In the same game, as Aaron Judge returned from the IL, Aaron Hicks left the game mid-way due to hip tightness. For New Yorkers, it was seemingly a double treat.

Since September 23, 2022, Hicks hadn’t managed a single hit at the Bronx, and in the previous game against the Athletics, he finally broke that rut. But that didn’t sort of help his cause with the fans, as they were more than happy to watch him leave the field.

In the first game against the Oakland Athletics, when the Yanks registered a 7-2 victory at Yankee Stadium, Aaron Hicks finally rose to the occasion and smashed a two-run homer and took a breath of relief.
The Bronx cheer could be heard all around the stadium as Hicks exited the field, and even on Twitter. Some fans strongly hoped that the Yanks would pull him out and immediately designate him for assignment, or even better, trade him.
This is how fans reacted:

Ever since the season started, the Yanks had two major concerns. A shortstop gap in the infield, and one major gap in the outfield. Giancarlo Stanton’s injury didn’t help the outfield problem, but Anthony Volpe definitely solved the hole at shortstop.
Maybe Hicks being away for a while could help solve the problem in the outfield.
