It’s official, the New York Yankees will be mere spectators of the playoffs. For the first time in 7 years, since 2016, the postseason will be Yankee-less. The Bronx Bombers were eliminated from the AL wild card on Sunday when they lost to the Arizona Diamondbacks 7-1. What’s worse than a season exit that proved to be a “big failure”? However, the team’s captain is out for rescue with his “internal talks”.

A season that began with huge aspirations of winning the World Series turned into a rather humiliating and disappointing saga. Aaron Judge, captain of the New York Yankees’ reaction shows how deeply agitated he is with how the season panned out. The 31-year-old outfielder bluntly jibed at the front office folks without mincing his words.

Aaron Judge Could Not Have Been More Brutally Honest

A Yankees beat writer of @nypostsports, Greg Joyce tweeted what Judge had to say about this entire episode of their playoffs contention departure. Judge’s emotional account read, “When you don’t show up and you don’t produce and you get kicked out like this in the regular season, that’s a big failure right there. We got a lot of work to do, a lot of internal talks, a lot of stuff we gotta get figured out and get right for next year.” Could he have been more brutally honest?

On the contrary to what would have been a chase for the franchise’s 28th title, their regular season plane landed at 78-77. With that, Judge will have a critical conversation with Hal Steinbrenner to look closer at the “lot of stuff going on around here that needs to be fixed”. While he declined to give further details, isn’t that a subtle hint that a lot was wrong?

After all the effort in training and preparation irrespective of rain or shine, when the championship slips away it is nothing short of miserable. The $360 million captain told MLB.com, “..it’s about bringing a championship back. That’s why we play. That’s why I’m here.” He knows it’s time to fix things for the Yanks, and the ball is in the management’s court. What are they going to do?

There Is a Lot to Be Fixed

It is worth noting what folks like Brian Cashman and Hal Steinbrenner will now do. Hal Steinbrenner, on the one hand, might have to review the analytics to improve the department altogether. Brian Cashman, on the other hand, would have to make moves to improve the roster. Yet, what stands ahead for the Yankees is still in question.
