It has been a season of disappointment for the 27-time champion New York Yankees. They have struggled for the entire season and are almost out of the playoff race. Because of this, there is nothing much for them to celebrate now, barring Gerrit Cole. The star pitcher has been the sole light in the dim 2023 season. He has done well with his performances and is on the road to adding another feather to his career, a long cherished Cy Young award. However, he lacks support from his teammates, which adds to his frustration.

A pitcher demands a lot from the catcher. And they need to be on the same pitch to find success. But there seems to be a disconnect between Cole and rookie catcher Ben Rortvedt. The same was visible when the two almost fought their last game. It happened in the public, many raised whether the two are finding it difficult to play alongside. Now days after the incident, the world has finally an answer. The Yankees skipper Aaron Boone reflected on the incident and gave a detail that settled the case very much.

The Yankees skipper Aaron Boone recently was a part of a podcast. There, he answered many questions regarding the team while also reflecting on the incident involving Gerrit Cole and Ben Rortvedt. Talkin’ Yanks shared a clip of Boon’s answer with a caption, “Jomboy asked Boone why Cole is so hard on Rortvedt.”

Boone’s answer came after Jomboy asked, “I’ve never seen Cole shake off so demonstrably. We know Cole is hard on catchers. My heart goes out to Benny a little bit because he’s all over him.” To this, the Yankees skipper replied, “At all times. Gerrit’s all over all of us at all times. He’s all in, man. Every day. I love it, man. Competes, man, wants it. He expects a lot from all those around.”

Noticeably, his response told a lot about the current scenario. It also explains the reason behind his disagreement with the young and one of the favorite catchers of the team. Having not won a precious Cy Young Award, Cole wants to win this and wants everyone to give their best on the pitch. But will he be able to do so?
