Aaron Boone has had enough. The statement might seem controversial when seen in light of recent events because the New York Yankees are in a rut. Every team wins some and loses some, but this club seems to be barely keeping its win count above the losses. Amid a flurry of impatient fan questions, the Yankees’ manager has had it up to here.

2023 has seen the front office come under more heat than ever with what fans call poor decision-making. Brian Cashman’s lack of moves last winter as well as the relative quiet at this trade deadline makes him seem unmotivated for improvement. And Boone, who can only do so much with the roster he’s given, finally erupted after facing endless tough questions.

The Yankees skipper recently joined the popular podcast channel, Jomboy, for weekly appearances. Knowing he’d be faced with tough questions amid a disappointing season in the Bronx, Boone was apparently prepared. And yet, one question about Aaron Judge set him off.

The Yankees captain has been having a tough time dealing with injuries this season and his team is protective. When Jomboy host Jake Storiale asked Boone about the outfielder, the manager got defensive. The question was about Judge skipping the crucial series finale against the Orioles last Sunday, and Boone fired back, “I’m gonna protect Aaron Judge…when a guy has torn ligaments in his toe, is trying to come back, hasn’t been built up even a little bit — like, stop, be better than that.

He added, “And I understand how big of a game it is on Sunday against the Orioles. How big are these games against Tampa? How big are the weekend games in Houston? Do you think he’s gonna go out there and play every day right out of the shoot?…he’s not in that position to do that. The warrior that he is, he’s not there right now.”

This was a situation when he should have perhaps owned up to it but he gave justifications instead. Interestingly, this was not the first time the two personalities have clashed this year.

Boone and Storiale Have Locked Horns About New York Yankees Management Before

The Yankees’ losses to rivals Boston Red Sox have been more than embarrassing for fans to witness. The club is different with and without the presence of its captain, something Storiale was trying to get Boone to admit in June. As a result, Boone told the podcast host to try managing a team himself if he thought it was so easy.

The skipper had brought in Michael King for a game where the Yanks were trying to keep a tie rather than take the lead. When Storiale called him out for not bringing in someone else, Boone simply said, “When you manage the team, you can bring them in in that situation.

A brutal reply if there ever was one. To his credit, though, Boone still shows up to the weekly discussions with Jomboy. Even if they might turn into heated discussions sometimes.
