Barry Bonds is one of the legendary names of baseball. The MLB legend played for the Pittsburgh Pirates and the San Francisco Giants for close to two decades in the MLB. Known for his aggressiveness and power-hitting, Bonds was always a hot prospect in the market as big teams wanted to sign him. One such team that wanted him to sign was the New York Yankees.
Even though they offered Bonds a contract, the deal never materialized. Bonds focused on the same once and shared that he was a signature close to making it the New York. But because for multiple reasons, he did not pursue the offer. Bonds then joined the Giants, with whom he played till his retirement in 2007.

It is a dream of every athlete to play at the home stadium. The same was the dream of MLB legend Barry Bonds, which also helped Bonds to find his way between the two offers. It happened after Barry’s contract with the Pirates expired, and he got offers from the Giants and the Yankees. At one moment, it looked like his next stop would be New York City, but it was not the case. A Twitter user shared a clip from Bonds’ confession about his contract.
Per Barry Bonds, the Yankees attempted to sign him in 1993, and there was a 15-20 minute period where it was “close”.

In the video, he recalls, “The Yankees offered me the same contract. I think Ryne Sandberg had the same, or a little more than that.”
Barry then adds that the Yankees gave him time till 2 p.m. He discussed this with his agent while choosing to have his lunch. In the meantime, his agent called him to tell him that the Giants offered him a higher contract. It added to his dream of playing at home as he chose the Giants over the Pinstripes.
Barry addressed it as, “My agent called me back, and the San Francisco Giants offered a higher contract. And I said, this is great, I want to go home. And, you know, I’ve always wanted to play at home. That was my dream, to play with my godfather and my father, you know, on the same team.” Even though Barry did not join the Yankees, but still has a connection because of his father.

Barry Bonds’ father played for the Yankees!
Bobby Bonds is another big name in the MLB. He started his MLB career with the Giants and hit a home run on his debut. He was known for his dual skills and often led the batting and pitching charts. Interestingly, he played for the New York Yankees during the 1975 season. He had a great season with them and made it to the All-star team. Both Bonds had a distinguished career, but could not claim a World Series title. As the Yankees won it in 1996. Could it have been a different story had Barry joined the Yankees? Well, that is hard to answer.
