A search is underway to find the submarine that disappeared while exploring the wreckage of the Titanic. 5 people were aboard the underwater vehicle when it went missing. An international mission was undertaken to find the submarine within the 4 days that the oxygen was going to last. But the most recent update led to an unlikely debate on the Houston Astros’ sign-stealing scandal in Major League Baseball.

In 2020, the Astros were punished for stealing signs during the 2017 and 2018 MLB seasons. A fine of $5 million was levied against the team, the largest in League history. Furthermore, they lost draft compensation as well. But now, as a positive update about the Titanic submarine has been reported, baseball fans are bringing up the Astros’ scandal.

Rob Manfred regrets giving Astros players immunity

In a shocking statement, MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred has expressed regret at giving Astros players immunity after the sign-stealing scandal. He did this in exchange for their testimony on the incident. But now, a few years later, he regrets that choice.

During a wide-ranging interview with TIME, Manfred said, “I’m not sure that I would have approached it with giving players immunity. Once we gave players immunity, it puts you in a box as to what exactly you were going to do in terms of punishment. I might have gone about the investigative process without that grant of immunity and see where it takes us.”
