Looks like the Atlanta Braves are continuing their strategy of contract extensions on new arrivals. The team has extended Chris Sale’s contract. Famous insider Jon Heyman has announced that the pitcher has signed a 2 year, $38 million deal with the Braves. Having just traded Sale from the Boston Red Sox, it seems the Atlanta-based team couldn’t wait long enough to extend his stay.
The pitcher is set to earn $16 million in 2024 followed by $22 million in 2025. But this isn’t all as the contract contains other clauses as well. The biggest is the club option that the team has included in this deal.

Atlanta Braves are all in on Chris Sale
Chris Sale hasn’t been his absolute best for quite some time now. The 7x All-Star had found himself meandering in Boston. With both him and the team looking for greener pastures, he moved to the Atlanta Braves. Sale must have left some impression on the Bravos as not only have they extended his contract but are also giving him a raise in 2025.

Earlier, Sale was slated to earn $20 million in 2025 but this new deal has increased it to $22 million. Also, the pitcher has agreed to donate 1% of his salary to the Atlanta Braves Foundation. At the same time, the Braves have included a $16 million club option in this deal as well. The Red Sox gave the Bravos $17 million in cash considerations during this trade so it looks like that money is going towards the 2024 salary of Sale.
Even though Sale hasn’t been at his absolute best, he still excels in getting hitters right in the strike zone. His 125 strikeouts were pretty good for an aging pitcher. This could come in handy in a Braves team that won the league-best 104 games last season. With an experienced pitcher in their lineup, the Braves could excel even more.

This also points to the expensive yet smart roster management strategy of the Braves. Lately, the team has been ensuring that most players stay in the squad for a long time. With constant contract extensions, the Bravos have created a roster that is strong and stable. Perhaps that’s why even after other franchises’ fantastic offseasons, the Braves remain on top of every prediction.
