Speaking about consistency, the Houston Astros have to be on the front seat. Over the years, they have been among the most consistent MLB teams. However, for the club, the 2024 season hasn’t gone according to their plan. With some potential injuries and losing Cristian Javier and Jose Urquidy for the entire season, now the question is: will the team look to trade Kyle Tucker along with Alex Bregman? Recently, an MLB Top Insider shared some crucial insights.

Inching closer to the MLB trade deadline, a lot is about to change in MLB sports. Among the possible trades for the Houston Astros, Jon Heyman hinted at his side of the story.  Talking about the possible player trades, he claimed, “Let’s talk about some price players who could be moved. I am gonna through them out there, and we will see what happens to these players. Look at the Astros; they don’t want to sell, they don’t want to be a seller. They have got to the LCS, seven in a year, they could become a seller, Let’s face it.”

Elaborating on the Astros and if they become a seller in the near future, Jon Heyman further said,” If they gonna be a seller, it’s going to be Bregman who is a free agent after the year. Would they trade [Kyle] Tucker? I doubt it, but listen — the category is a surprise, longshot players who could be moved. So, I’m going to throw Tucker in there. Longshot, but obviously, teams will be asking.”

As much as Houston thinks of not becoming a seller, it’s far from reality. The team isn’t halfway through the season and is trailing at 33-40 under Joe Espada. For the next month, if the Astros fail to bridge the gap between them and the Seattle Mariners (44-31), it could lead to a shift in their strategy. For the same, Jon Heyman gave the names of the two ‘longshot’ players, Alex Bregman and Kyle Tucker, who could be the possible trading options.

Kyle Tucker & Alex Bregman trade aftermath

Kyle Tucker is on the injured list but he’s a player who can still be on the contender’s list. He has been selected for back-to-back All-Star teams and has performed exceptionally well in 2024. Currently, he is slashing at .266/.395/.584/.979 over the last 60 games he has played. More to it, hitting 19 home runs, 11 doubles, and 10 stolen bases is just an add-on to his achievements. Altogether, he has been a formidable player. Being a two-time MLB All-STar, winning a World Series Champion, and winning the Gold Glove award in 2022, it’s hard to believe the Astros will trade him.

However, if the Houston Astros decide to reset fully, he could be a name to pop up. If Houston decides to trade him, they have the opportunity to receive a good return. Right now, he’s 27 years old, and other teams can give him a handsome amount and build a team around him. On the other hand, the Houston Astros might offer a contract extension to Kyle Tucker. But if the extension fails, the opportunity to trade him will only increase further.

Also, Zach Pressnell of Fansided shared a blockbuster trade idea that can send Kyle Tucker to a National League contender spot. That team would be the Atlanta Braves. As per his suggested trade idea, Zach could go into the Braves and the Astros can get the right-hander Hurston Waldrep, another right-hander Darius Vines, and a shortstop Nacho Alvarez Jr. Following the trade of Alex Bregman, the player has been an important one for the two winning championships for the Astros in 2017.

Although he hasn’t been in his top form in recent years, his past performance still speaks for him. He became an MVP in 2018 and 2019 whereas his results for 2022 and 2023 weren’t that bad. Given his recent track record, Bregman might draw some interest, for the potential trade. However, if the trade happens for a single-year rental, his value will decrease. Also, for Bregman, the Yankees could show potential interest. As they focus on the World Series, they need a first base player and Bregman might fit in.

On the contrary, if he could start winning games for the Astros, they could consider not to trade him. Still, if they struggle, he is a bigger trade candidate for the Astros than the in-form Kyle Tucker. What’s your take on this? Share your thoughts in the comments below.
