Houston Astros’ Jose Altuve is making headlines like never before. As the postseason unfolded, he not only blew minds but also records. The Astros have had a stellar performance spanning the 2023 postseason and Altuve undoubtedly is the catalyst. So much so that he has dwarfed the New York Yankees’ legend, Derek Jeter

So what about Altuve is so special anyway? Apart from being one of the most distinctive and productive hitters of his time, he has dominated the World Series with home runs. He’s the man that earned the words from his teammate, “Altuve is a guy that’s going to carry us”.

This Astros 2nd baseman is rare, to such a degree that it caught the attention of sportscaster Evan Roberts. He went on record to make a comparison of the 33-year-old to old-timer Derek Jeter during his heyday. He said, ”I’m gonna go right down your alley, Yankee fans of the late 90s. What I was always told was, look at the postseason. Derek Jeter played 158 postseason games, a very respectable twenty home runs and 61 RBI. Altuve has played in 96 of them. Twenty-four home runs, and 50 RBI”. That being said, the statistical truth inclines toward the fact that “Jose Altuve is better than Derek Jeter”.

He went on to further explain that on one hand, over his career in the postseason, Altuve has scored 80 runs. On the other, Jeter scored 47 including 64 additional postseason games. He drew a strong remark on both the players. As the 49-year-old Yankee flaunts 5 World Series rings, the Venezuelan star hones only 2 (as of now). Not belittling Jeter’s achievements, the statistical comparison that Evan made, highlights that Altuve is a step ahead of the former.

With his name spread all over MLB leaderboards, he said, “The thought is always about winning. In the season, you have 162 [games] to make a lot of adjustments. Now, you have to win today and the next day. It’s almost like there’s no tomorrow, so I think the whole team focuses on winning”. With that, it is clear that the Commissioner’s Trophy is their only aim.

Jose Altuve Is The Embodiment of Records and Dominance

After hitting a home run to start Game 1 of the ALDS against the Minnesota Twins, Altuve was only 3-for-16 the remainder of the series. During a particularly rough spell in September, he homered five times in two games at Globe Life Field. Not to mention Altuve’s 17, 7 out of which were hit through eight games against the Rangers.

In terms of total hits he is at 107, runs, 80, home runs 24, extra-base hits 42, and RBIs 50, reaching the top ranks. With three more runs scored, Altuve will tie the all-time record of 83 held by Bernie Williams; four RBIs would tie him with Albert Pujols, 54. With his name juxtaposed with other legendary players of MLB history, there is no doubt that he is a gem.
