With the Houston Astros preparing for their 2025 season, the disappointment of not reaching the ALCS since 2016 still haunts their coach, Jeff Bagwell. The pitching staff was completely shaken by players suffering from injuries. And now, Jeff Bagwell shares his intake on the current off-season and what the team composition may look like.

Jeff Bagwell has spent his entire 15-year professional career in MLB with the Houston Astros. He hit 449 home runs for the club, the most in its history, and was even named an All-Star four times. When asked about how to reverse the Astros’ fate, Jeff tried to consider the fans’ perspective and understand the dynamics of how things work.

With two more months to go for the baseball games, Jeff is yet to make a call on who is going to play the outfield and do pitching. However, Bagwell seems quite confident in having great pitchers on the team, given the likes of Hunter Brown and Spencer Arrigheti, to name a few. While Hunter has an average of.242 with 1.27 WHIP and 3.49 ERA, Spencer’s average is.250 with 1.41 WHIP and 4.53 ERA. When asked about the additions of Cam Smith and Christian Walker in an interview on February 3, Jeff said, “No, I wasn’t shocked. There are certain things you can do. Kyle Tucker’s going to make a lot of money, and we get one year of him. We have got some good players; Cam Smith is a big deal we got on the trade.” Jeff seems satisfied with the new additions, which will bring a lot to the table for the Astros.

Trading Kyle Tucker for Cam Smith has been a great move; he batted 311 with 1.125 OPS with three multi-hit performances in 2024 at Single-A. He even posted.843 OPS in 2023, which further skyrocketed, and he made 387/.488/.654 line, which made him a first-round talent. On the other hand, Christian Walker made 26 home runs, 84 RBIs, 55 walks, and 133 strikeouts, which could also be effective for the Astros. The coach, Jeff Bagwell, also has his say on Alex Bregman, mentioning that they have put the best offer for him on the table. However, given that Bregman rejected the offer by the Astros, Jeff talked about his right to make a call as a free agent, which they would like to respect.

What lies ahead for the Astros’ All-Star, Alex Bregman?

What’s your perspective on:

Is Alex Bregman worth the $200 million he's demanding, or is he overestimating his value?

Have an interesting take?

Ever since the Astros’ All-Star, Alex Bregman, became a free agent, he has not been able to find any takers yet. But what is the reason behind that? Well., Bregman is seeking a long-term contract of a minimum of six years worth $200 million or more, which no teams are willing to offer. Despite an astounding record of 375/.490/.750, 1.240 OPS, and leading the team to win the World Series title in 2017 and 2022, the likelihood of a reunion remains uncertain, as Bregman rejected a six-year, $156 million offer put on his table by the Astros. Soon to be 31 years old, Alex’s rejection of the offer has raised a lot of eyebrows about his performance in the next couple of years too. However, that doesn’t stop him from getting noticed by another team, the Toronto Blue Jays.

With the likely exit of the Toronto Blue Jays’ Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and Bo Bichette, the Toronto Blue Jays are looking to get Bregman, which can help them make a significant mark in the upcoming seasons. Although they have Ernie Clement and other players at the third base, Bregman is the best among them. Alex’s batting average in 2024 was 260, and he made 26 home runs, posting 75 RBIs and.768 OPS in 145 games. So, now with the increasing stalemates with the Astros, the Blue Jays would like to acquire his services and maybe even consider him as a leadership prospect in the future too.
