Derek Jeter is one of those legendary players whose loyalty cannot be strayed from the team he supports? The New York Yankees. This makes him a central piece of the Yankees dynasty, and thus, he probably knows more about the squad than anyone else. Interestingly, though, he first played under the old owner George Steinbrenner. So, he doesn’t only know about the team but also can vouch for its former owner.
And perhaps that’s why he’s the best person to ask when it comes to Yankees and how they functioned under the late George Steinbrenner. Jeter recently gave an interview to the New York Post where he talked about his family life and his career. It was then that he shared an interesting insight into how George Steinbrenner worked, bringing Shohei Ontani into the conversation as well.

Derek Jeter on how George Steinbrenner would sign Shohei Ohtani
George Steinbrenner was highly passionate about the New York Yankees. But the team wasn’t the only thing that called to the baseball enthusiast within him. Rather, winning was something he was deeply passionate about as well. Thus, it is not a surprise that under him the Yankees won 7 World Series Championships. He was so actively involved in the team that he ended up getting a nickname “The Boss”.

His zeal for Yankees to always have the best players led to him aggressively pursuing players. Hence, naturally, people wonder what he would do today to get his hands on Shohei Ohtani, the biggest free agent in the league today.
Derek Jeter answered this question when asked by Steve Serby of New York Post. He said with a laugh,“He?d probably show up at his house. ? I don?t know, that?s a good question. It would depend on how bad he wanted him. If he wanted him bad, he would do anything it took in order to get him in pinstripes.”
George was certainly not the one to wait and “Captain Clutch”, who has worked closely with the late Yankees owner confirms the same. Ohtani’s free agency is the talk of the town right now as many teams are lining up for him. But it is a known fact that Derek Jeter wishes that the Yankees sign ?Juan Soto.
