As we know, the LA Angels are not the most successful MLB team. The Angels won the World Series Championship in 2002. That was also their only appearance in the World Series. Despite their minimum success, relying on the popularity of Los Angeles as a city coupled with the stardom of Mike Trout and Shohei Ohtani, the LA Angels have transformed into a fan favorite and popular MLB team.

Over the past few years, the Angels haven’t done justice to their fans with their poor performance in 2022. Over and above, forgetting their lack of World Series appearances, the last time the Angels made the postseason was in 2014. The fans are not happy, and a steady pushback has begun.

What did Mike Scioscia say about Mike Trout and Shohei Ohtani?

Mike Trout has spent his entire MLB career with the Angels. In 2019, Trout signed a massive $426 million 12-year extension with the Angels. Shohei Ohtani came to the Angels in 2018 and signed a 2-year extension in 2021. Despite their glory, brilliant records, and achievements over the years, the Angels have struggled as a team. Also, it has not been working out well for either Trout or Ohtani.

Coming to their defense is Mike Scioscia, who has spent his entire baseball career with the Angels. From being a player to coach and finally a manager, he’s always been with the Angels. Being full of praises for the two superstars, he said, “They’re both very very loyal players. It’s not always an easy proposition but those two guys are terrific young men, very well-grounded. I can’t say enough about Mike Trout, you’ve seen him grow up in the organization. Same with Shohei, a very strong foundation, loves the game of baseball. So it doesn’t surprise me that those guys, as loyal as they are, will ride this out and turn it around and give Orange County another chance for another flag.”

Scioscia, while talking about the sole World Championship victory, adds, “The flag that we have up is getting a little lonely up there. These guys have made an ambition to try and put another one next to it and I know they’d like to see it through.”

LA Angels in 2022

The Angels have had a choppy 2022. In June, when they faced a 12-match losing streak, the management abruptly and harshly sacked their manager Joe Maddon. Since then, the Angels’ performance has only gone from bad to worse. After sacking Maddon, their record has been 25-41. Today, they are placed 4th in the AL West table, and possibilities of a comeback are reducing as the season progresses.

Like previous years, even this year, chances for the Angels to make the postseason are minimum. However, will they be able to regroup and come back strong in 2023? What do you think?
