Currently, the Philadelphia Phillies have a real shot at winning the World Series Championship. Rob Thomson, who has managed his team well enough to grab victory with one last sweep, became Philly’s favorite. He earned his moniker, ‘Philly Rob’, within a short period of joining hands with Philadelphia. From playing for the Detroit Tigers to coaching the New York Yankees to finally managing the Philadelphia Phillies, Rob has come a long way. But what’s next for ‘Philly Rob’? 

Rob Thomson’s Contribution to the Phillies

One might wonder why this question even comes up. Thomson’s legacy with the Phillies started in 2018 and was meant to conclude in 2022. Nonetheless, on the eve of the Phillies’ 2022 National League Division Series opener, they released a statement.

The organization celebrated Rob Thomson by awarding him a two-year contract extension, allowing him to remain at the helm of the team until 2024.After the team sacked Joe Girardi on June 3. Thomson, who was 59 at the time, was labeled as the interim manager. 

The Phillies flourished under Thomson. The club finished the regular season 65-46 and qualified for the postseason for the first time since 2011, electrifying the fan base. That was an enormous achievement for the team. Any guess who made this happen? That’s right, it was the Ontario Canada-born Rob. With that, fast forward to 2023.

Often, by the middle of the game, he frequently turned to his high-leverage relievers to stifle possible rallies. For instance, of the 12 times Jose Alvarado appeared in the playoffs a year ago, he entered in the fifth or sixth inning five times.

After the 3-1 victory to the Atlanta Braves, the Phillies have won a berth to the NLCS and the man behind this victory is none other than Rob himself. Now, the question is, what happens when Rob’s contract ends in 2024?
