Have the New York Yankees replaced their cross-town neighbors as New York’s team in crisis? They’ve lost 8 out of their last 10 games. But more importantly, the New York Mets have just swept the Yankees in the Subway Series. Suddenly the bragging rights are with the Mets and the Yankees have a lot to think about. But while they do their thinking, Mets’ Francisco Lindor is enjoying this moment in the sun.

The Subway Series is always a big event in spite of how its participants are doing. It doesn’t matter if they’re struggling or excelling, for these two games, it’s their egos that are on the line. For the Mets, it’s a chance to prove that they aren’t the little brother in New York. And for the Yankees, it’s another way of saying that the Big Apple is pinstriped. But on this occasion, the Mets dominated the Yankees and that has given Lindor a big smile.

Before the series, Francisco Lindor was a little confused about the importance of the Subway Series so he went around asking about it. During his postgame interview, the star revealed why it’s so important for the fans and players. “They (fans) get bragging rights over the summer until they face each other,” Lindor said. Later he expressed how it’s fun for him as well.

“It’s fun. As a guy that likes to talk a lot of crap, I think it’s fun,” Lindor said about the series win. “I think it’s fun for the barbershop, I think it’s fun for every workplace.” Certainly, it is, especially when one dominates like the Mets did. In the second game, the Mets defeated the Yankees 12-2 and that suddenly changed things in both the team’s clubhouse. Suddenly, the nosediving Mets have risen to a .500 record and the Yankees are falling fast.

The hype of the Mets’ win was seen through their fans’ activity after the game. The iconic Grimace turned on the party as the Mets fans rejoiced in a big win over their rivals.

Grimace has surely become a huge favorite of the New York Mets. Why wouldn’t he? Ever since he threw the first pitch, the Mets have been on a roll. Such has been their rise that Grimace is now being called the lucky charm of the Mets. His popularity was evident during Game 2 of the Subway Series. As the rain delayed the game, the Orange and Blue fanbase found themselves enjoying the shenanigans of the purple character.

The fan clad in a Grimace outfit stood on an elevated surface surrounded by enthusiastic supporters. As he chugged his drink, the crowd couldn’t help but cheer for this lovable character. After Grimace finished, he went on to high-five fans, spreading the joy. Certainly, the Mets are in great spirits today, a stark contrast to their rough patch in May when the team, including Francisco Lindor, was struggling.

As for the New York Yankees, they’d wish to find a lucky charm like Grimace. The invincible team suddenly looks weak and that isn’t something that any of the Yankees fans would like to see.
