The San Diego Padres third baseman Manny Machado seems to have gotten into a rift with an umpire yet again. Umpire controversy has plagued the league this season. And it wasn’t the first time the Friars’ player got entangled in one either. An instance from early August this year seems to have resurfaced in yesterday’s game against the Arizona Diamondbacks.

The season has been quite unnerving for MLB as a whole, but the constant disagreements between players and umpires have been a bit unsettling. Manny Machado is one of those players who has visibly expressed his dislike. To add on, while other players have been seen extending support, Manny Machado has rebelled quite openly.

In yesterday’s game of Padres vs D-backs, the umpire called a strike and Machado seemed quite unhappy about it. Though there were clear signs about why the umpire made the call, the player’s sportsmanship might have quivered. Machado walked past the umpire glaring at him with rage, something that has become a common theme with him.

This incident was not as bad as the one from a game against the Dodgers a few weeks ago, where Machado got into an animated argument with the ump. Fortunately for the Padres, he stayed in the game back then, but this instance did not go as quietly.

Fans did not receive Machado’s exhibition of disagreement well. They instantly took to social media to express how helmet slamming in the middle of an ongoing game is not professional.

Machado’s One Of Many Explosions At The Umpire

The pattern of Manny’s dispute with umpires dates back to as early as June 2019, when events took a drastic turn resulting in Machado’s one-game suspension. While umps have been under fire for their bad calls this season, in a plot twist, social media had different comments this time.

Instead of the umpires, it was Machado receiving heat for his actions this time.

Robo umps, which have been all the rage among fans, were also included in the conversation. But according to one, they would have made the same decision.

Manny’s reputation as the ‘crybaby’ does not do justice to the game and sportsmanship. Only time will tell if the rift between Machado and the umpires will ever cease to exist.
