Arizona Diamondbacks Star Shocks the World by Pulling Off a Dangerous Play Inspired by MLB Great Derek Jeter

MLB legend Derek Jeter, because of his heroic and storied career in baseball, is one of the best players in the game’s history. Jeter had many heroic moments during his storied career with the New York Yankees. Even though it’s been over eight years since Captain Clutch hung up his cleats and bid farewell to the game, every now and then, something happens in the ballpark that once again brings back the memories of the former Yankees captain.

A moment with the Arizona Diamondbacks’ star Jake McCarthy in a recent game against the San Diego Padres gave the baseball fans a flashback to Jeter’s iconic catch directly into the bleachers. 

Captain Clutch Derek Jeter has an imitator in modern-day baseball!

Almost two decades ago, on July 1, 2004, during a game with the Yanks’ fiercest rival, the Boston Red Sox. The Red Sox had runners on the second and third, and Trot Nixon had hit the ball toward the shallow left. Derek Jeter raced for the ball and realized midway that if he wanted to make the catch, he would have to dive for it. Hence, he did, smashed onto the stands, and landed between the fans.

Something like this happened yesterday when McCarthy ran toward the bleachers to catch a ball. He continued running, keeping an eye on the ball, without realizing he was about to hit face-first to the stands. But before he plunged into the bleachers, he managed to catch the ball.

It was an incredible grab indeed, and any Jeter fan would go back to the Hall of Famer’s moment while watching the clip. Meanwhile, among the fans, McCarthy has become an even bigger hit.

Round A prospect of the MLB 2018 draft, Jake McCarthy, made his debut in the big league in August 2021. That same year, he managed to hit two home runs, 4 RBI, and 8 walks in a total of 24 games. He wrapped up the 2022 MLB season with 23 stolen bases in 26 attempts. In addition to this, he also had the fastest sprint speed of all major league right fielders, at 30.1 feet/second. 

And now, seems like his speed is coming in handy this season, as he helped his team win the game last night.
