Baseball is a team game, and chemistry between the players plays a crucial role in it. The same goes for the Legendary Derek Jeter, who captained the New York Yankees. Jeter had a critical role in keeping the chemistry between the entire squad strong. He was successful in doing so and along with all the wins, made lifelong memories.

Jeter was an influential figure but had a hidden side, too. His former team, Doug Mientkiewicz, shared an unforgetful incident that involves Derek from his time at the Yankees. What exactly is he talking about? Let us find out!

When Derek Jeter pranked Doug Mientkiewicz!

Notably, both players played together for a season. Being the senior pros, they both had a great understanding. But during that time, Jeter put Mientkiewicz in a difficult position with a prank. Foul Territory shared a video of Mientkiewicz recalling that incident on Twitter. The caption of the post read, “‘Derek Jeter goes,’ ‘That letter was all bullsh*t.'” Doug Mientkiewicz’s incredible story of the time Derek Jeter pranked him GOOD. “

The incident happened during the 2007 season when Jeter did not talk to Mientkiewicz. He then shared, “Posada comes up, and he’s like shaking his head, He’s like, You fu**ed up man. And I’m like, I don’t recall what I did.” Mientkiewicz recalls a letter in his locker room when he reached there the next day.

It mentioned that because of his comments earlier to the media, 2.7 million bottles of Derek Jeter were driven off the shelves. It put him in a mix of emotions. Though the fun part of it was that Jeter revealed to him that the letter was fake during the next game.

It was a proper plan in which the team manager was also involved!

Doug recalled the start of the prank and shared it was a proper setup in which Joe Torre was also involved. Doug added that he was mad after he came across the truth. He aggressively called his teammate and said, “Are you f**king serious? Like, I took the ball. I spun them like, right on the back. I go, Look, I know these playoff games are easy for you, but I’m sh**ng the brick here. “

Meanwhile, Mientkiewicz had a decent season with the Yankees. He finished with 26 runs at an average of 0.277 and OPS of 0.789, playing a part in the Yankees’ qualification for the postseason. Even though Doug’s stay with the Yankees was only a season long, Jeter gave him a memory for life.
