The Atlanta Braves are warming up in 2022 after a slow start to the season. The Braves have cut down the Mets’ lead in the NL East rapidly and now sit only five games behind the division leaders. And that has been down to the Braves’ form coming into the summer. With the longest win streak of the Majors this season, they are rolling through the opposition like nobody’s business. Fresh off the success of 2021 with a World Series win, could the Braves repeat last year’s performance?

Atlanta Braves dominate the Washington Nationals

Despite losing All-Star second baseman, Ozzie Albies to injury for this encounter, the Braves appeared comfortable as they coursed through the game with a comfortable 10-4 victory to run out the Nationals in their home stadium. The Braves are now within touching distance of the Mets, who at one time, seemed to romp home with the Division.

Pitching on debut for the Nationals, Jackson Tetreault was taken for seven home runs on the night. With Dansby Swanson, Travis d’Arnaud, and Ozuna all homering too, it was the back-to-back efforts that stood out. Ozuna and d’Arnaud were one pair to bring home such an effort, and Orlando Arcia and Harris then repeated the feat in the sixth innings again.

The Braves are now only two shy of their franchise-record 15-game winning streak, which they set in 2000 to establish the side’s modern-day record. And it isn’t just about the wins either. It’s the scale and method through which the Braves seem to achieve it that is truly remarkable.

“That’s our identity,” Snitker said. “We’re not a team that bunches hits. We hit homers.”

The players’ opinions

Even the players got in on the action. Rookie center fielder, Michael Harris II, spoke about his first time being part of such a historic streak. Said Harris, “You feel like you’re on top of the world when you keep winning every night.”

With a 36-27 record in MLB so far, the Braves look like a definite contender if they make it to the post-season. But while the season is long, it remains to be seen if the Braves really can make it there.
