Anthony Volpe is one player who holds massive responsibilities on his shoulders. Whether it was the disappointing last season or the upcoming hopeful season, this 22-year-old knows how to take responsibility. So much so that last year he said, “I feel my expectations for myself and kind of how we view it for the team, everyone, it’s super high.

The Gold Glove Award winner, aka the man Marcus Stroman stood up for, is one that GM Brian Cashman expects a lot from. Rightly so, Volpe acknowledged it, and it was evident in his words, “I definitely know last year didn’t come close to cutting it, and that’s on me.” But 2024 is going to be different—World Series-different.

Yankees Videos tweeted a video clip of the shortstop explaining what his goals for the upcoming season are going to be. The tweet that was captioned, “Anthony Volpe’s goal for this season? “Win a World Series,” captured the righty’s intent and seriousness. His ambitions resonate with the New York Yankees’, particularly with new folks on the team.

When it comes to Volpe’s saga with the Yankees, it is mixed. On one hand, he played his first season and stated that he “loved every minute” of it. On the other hand, he found it “frustrating” that his contributions could not be as great as they could have been. He recognizes his responsibility, specifically when his stats last year were only .209 with a .666 OPS.

His first season may not have been jaw-dropping, but he is set to make his second season count. As per the New York Post, Volpe spoke candidly at the autograph signing event at American Dream. His intent for this March is “ironing out some of the things that can set me up for as much success as I expect.

Volpe is young and capable, and even the Yankees vouch for him. The club has steadily appreciated Volpe’s baseball IQ and capability to make amends, which are key to applying his learnings from his struggles last season.
