A few weeks after another disappointing postseason exit for the New York Yankees, baseman Anthony Rizzo exercised the opt-out clause from his $32 million worth two-year contract with the Pinstripes. Following that, MLB insiders suspected the possibility that Rizzo wouldn’t return to the Bronx. Moreover, various Astros agents suggested that Rizzo stood as Houston’s primary free agent target.

In hindsight, it all turned out to be false as the 2016 World Champion signed a $34 million contract with the New York Yankees extending till the end of 2024, with an additional one-year offer of $17 million.

New Yorkers are ecstatic after Anthony Rizzo re-signs

After Rizzo entered free agency, the popular thought process behind the Astros signing him was the further weakening of the Yankees in-field. This complemented the fact that the Yanks stand as the only team that has traveled close to the Houston Astros’ supremacy in the American League.

In consonance with this major update, some fans were ecstatic. At the same time, numerous other fans continued their demand to bring Aaron Judge back and hoped that he would be the next signing.

This is how fans reacted to the latest New York Yankees signing:

Notably, Anthony Rizzo made his MLB debut with San Diego Padres in 2011. Following that, he moved to the Chicago Cubs in 2012 and stayed there till 2021, when he moved to the Yankees. Up until now, the baseman has won one World Champion, made four All-Star appearances, one Silver Slugger Award, and four Golden Glove Awards.

Is Aaron Judge next?

Following a record-breaking and unforgettable 2022 season where he almost chased down the Triple Crown, the Yankees’ outfielder Aaron Judge entered the free market. During the previous offseason, Judge and Pinstripes’ front office failed to reach a common ground after they offered him a seven-year extension worth $230 million.

However, that deal never fell into place and Judge signed a one-year extension worth $19 million with New York. As a result, the slugger entered the season with a massive bet placed on himself.

The bets paid off; all in all, Aaron Judge smashed 62 home runs at 0.311 with 177 hits and 131 runs batted in. He’s now on track to win the American League MVP award after conquering the AL Hank Aaron award.
