When looking at Juan Soto, his talent, charisma, and the way he conducts himself, one tends to forget that he is actually a very young player. His achievements obscure the factor of age that he prominently brings to the forefront. With his trade news being in the headline, many question whether the decision to pay him a huge salary for one year of service would be a smart move by the New York Yankees. An insider has given a reason why pursuing him is an obvious choice.
While the Yankees would realistically prefer to have the Childish Bambino for more than just a year, the present reality only allows for a single year. Hence, the Yankees faithful are wondering if sacrificing their top prospects for one year of service is worth it or not.

Juan Soto not only brings immense talent but also the promise of youth with him. But his trade would require the Bronx squad to let go at least a few of their top prospects. Many expect this could be counterproductive, but this is where famous writer Chris Kirschner has put forth a very interesting point.
“There’s no argument for the Yankees to not try trading for Soto. Already a generational player who’s only a few years older than the prospects themselves. He’s 8 months older than Austin Wells!” Kirschner tweeted.
So, not only does Soto give a proven pedigree to the Yankees, but also is young enough to match many of their prospects in age. Not only Austin Wells but hitting prospects like Tyler Hardman and Ben Rice are barely a few months younger than the Dominican slugger. This does make the Yankees’ interest more obvious.

However, Soto’s high salary could be a problem. MLB Trade Rumors projected that he’d earn $33 million in 2023. The Pinstripes already have a ridiculously high payroll, and though they can fit Soto in it, they will have to reduce at least some players if they want to avoid getting taxed in 2024.

According to various reports, the San Diego Padres want an outfield and a pitcher this offseason. On account of losing their ace, Blake Snell, to free agency, their need for a starting pitcher is more pronounced. The Yankees can use Clarke Schmidt as a possible trade.
It is rumored that the Bronx Bombers could be looking to trade Giancarlo Stanton this season. His departure would free up their payroll by an enormous amount. This could help in managing Soto’s salary for this year.
