Even post retirement, the shadows of Alex Rodriguez’s MLB past haunt him. Since 2016, the former New York Yankees player has been peacefully leading a life away from the field, though still in the spotlight. But the trouble with having spent the majority of one’s time under public scrutiny is that there is rarely any room for mistakes. The same goes for A-Rod, whose Pandora’s Box of the past has been opened up yet again.

When the ex-shortstop confessed to using PEDs in 2009, the Bronx thought the worst was over. Not even five years later, trouble arrived on the Yankees’ doorsteps once again. And as before, this crisis bore the name of Alex Rodriguez. MLB handed the league’s longest-yet suspension to the former third baseman, and some fans have yet to forgive him. Especially if recent reports from the Biogenesis scandal are to be believed.

The infamous 2014 Biogenesis scandal has remained an open case for MLB, it seems. ESPN recently obtained some documents that reveal that not only did A-Rod deny his drug usage but also became a whistleblower for his fellow league members. While time has scabbed over the wounds of betrayal, Yankees fans are once again enraged at Rodriguez.

The one thing most people cannot tolerate is a snitch. But in order to get a lesser punishment, ESPN’s info states that the former Yankees slugger cut a deal with the authorities in exchange for details. Rodriguez put forward the names of Manny Ramirez and another All-Star on Jan. 29, 2014.

And even though Rodriguez has become part of the distant Yankees past for many, these new reports have upended the Bronx. While the retired ballplayer played for Seattle as well as Texas in his 22-season career, New York is where he achieved most success. But an X user clearly labeled other fans ‘fraudulent’ if they stated that “Arod is their favorite Yankee.”

They also considered another ages-long tradition that the club has followed for this label and has no intentions of changing.

Fans Support Unnamed Jerseys for the Yankees

There are a number of reasons that the rest of the league critiques the Bronx Bombers. But a reason as of late has been their jerseys. No one can deny the iconic pinstripes but the Yankees remain one of only two teams in MLB without names on their backs. The other is their sworn rival, the Boston Red Sox.

While no specific explanation for the same has ever been given, it’s widely believed that it’s the ‘team over individual’ mentality. The Yankees were the first club to assign numbers to differentiate players on the field in 1929. They clearly still believe in the same values and most fans are all for it.

Fans would rather denounce their loyalties than see the Pinstripes ruined by names on their jerseys. The sponsored uniform patches were quite enough.
