It’s a great time for Chicago White Sox minor leaguer Anderson Comas, who just announced huge personal news. The 23-year-old publicly came out as gay, a big decision in the sports world. It’s no secret that homophobes exist everywhere, but especially so in the sports community. While even in the 21st-century people act based on prejudices, Comas is taking a brave step forward to fight.
The minor leaguer played as an outfielder from 2017 to 21 but switched to pitching in 2022. A great prospect for the MLB, Comas has yet to move further than Low-A Kannapolis. But there is hope for the upcoming season yet, and looking at the team’s performance in 2022, they may just need the 23-year-old to step up and pitch.
As for the news, everyone expressed their pride and happiness for Comas!

This is a big deal.
He made his professional life much more difficult with this disclosure … but hopefully his personal life is so much better because of it.
Good to see his employer publicly support him. Wish you the best, Mr. Comas. The league needs brave people like you.

I won’t read or engage with the hatred below.
But this is good. It’s brave. It’s necessary.
This is love.

Other players, who are part of the LGBTQI+ community
Back in September 2021, Bryan Ruby became the only active pro baseballer to publicly come out. He is now also co-founder of Proud To Be In Baseball, a support group that advocates LGBTQI+ inclusion and acceptance in baseball. Another player that came out is the San Francisco Giants’ minor leaguer Solomon Bates, in August 2022. They are also joined by former Brewers minor-leaguer David Denson, who declared his news in 2015.
