Alex ‘A-Rod’ Rodriguez is a name that needs no introduction in the baseball world. Throughout his 22-year career in the big leagues, A-Rod turned out to be one of the greatest ever to play at the plate. Despite the errors he made and controversies, he was part of, what he achieved as an athlete is something only a handful of players do in any sport. But achieving all this did not come easily to him.

The former World Series champ worked hard enough for it, and even he sometimes needed help. There were times when he was stuck on the field, not being able to hit or score. Then came the four times world series winning manager, the iconic Joe Torre, and his words of wisdom that helped Alex Rodriguez to get over the yips.

A-Rod started playing in the big leagues at the mere age of eighteen. He played for two teams before coming to the Bronx and was already one of the most popular players in the league. Rodriguez has shown the potential to become the best, and he was on his way. But one day, during an at-bat, he got stuck.

Sometime during his career, A-Rod was facing a significant slump in his career of 0-30. Which then persuaded manager Joe Torre to come to his rescue with the mantra of success. Before his next at-bat, Torre came to him, and he said, “Hey, young man, think small and big things will happen.” While his next at-bat, Rodriguez and Torre made eye contact, and once again, he repeated to “think small.” As Alex absorbed this advice, in the next moment, his slump was over, and he had hit an absolutely amazing home run.

During the 10X show with Grant Cardone in 2021, the former Yankee explained how thinking small led to one of the biggest moments of his career. Talking to Cardone, and the audience, A-Rod said, “I know this is a big, large room, and we like to think big, but if you execute the small things, big things will start happening when you don’t even expect them.”

Joe Torre left a significant impact on A-Rod!

In the years that Rodriguez played for the New York Yankees, Torre played a vital role in his life. The four times world series winning manager provided A-Rod with guidance and support, both on and off the field.

In one of his books, Alex even considered Joe Torre a father figure. Aside from this, he also called Torre one of the most important people in his life. Rodriguez has multiple times talked about him and the impact that he left on him as a mentor.
