Boston Red Sox is in search of a starting pitcher for the team. They are not done with their search for an arm talent after bringing Garrett Crochet. As per reports, the Red Sox are looking to trade Triston Casas with the Mariners in exchange for a starting pitcher.  Despite Tristan’s notable performance in the 2023 season, he managed to appear in just 63 games owing to a rib cage injury.

The Red Sox has shown a great intent to bring St. Louis Cardinals’ Nolan Arenado into their team as well. After a moderate season, the Cardinals were looking to restructure their squad by letting go of some veteran pitchers. They are keen to trade Nolan Arenado, the reason they are continuously running into issues with the third baseman. Nolan would make $52 million if he played with the Cardinals for the rest of his time. They are not willing to pay such a huge amount for him, despite not having a no-trade clause in the contract. As per reports, the clause is cleared only for teams like the Red Sox, Dodgers, and a few others. It raises high hopes for them to bring Arenado to the team.

Red Sox’s plans for the addition of a third baseman and trading Triston Casas are doing rounds all over the news. However, it is a challenging aspect for them, considering that they need a better upgrade for the third base position. The Seattle Times report states “Earlier this offseason the Mariners shot down a one-for-one offer that would have sent one of Seattle’s young starters, Bryce Miller or Bryan Woo, to Boston for 24-year-old first baseman Triston Casas.” However, the chances are bleak with the Red Sox trying to bring Cardinals’ Arenado to the team.

Speculations are high of the Boston’s keen to take Nolan on the board; however, it is a risky option. Acquiring him might create some log jams in the infield. They would have to take additional risks by investing more money. That should be possible if the Cardinals take around $30 million of Arenado’s remaining $52 million. St. Louis though has to find a feasible trade destination to get a salary dump for trading Arenado.

What’s your perspective on:

Could Nolan Arenado be the game-changer the Red Sox need, or just an expensive gamble?

St. Louis Cardinals looking for a feasible trade destination

The Cardinals are probably looking for a suitable Nolan Arenado trade destination. They need to take a good amount of money from his contract to trade him. Other than the Red Sox’s willingness to take risks on the baseman, chances being poor, the New York Mets are on the lookout for him. Rather than bringing Alonso, a trade for Nolan would make more sense. Post the blockbuster signing of Juan Soto, they have little money to spend on him. However, the Cardinals have traded Paul Goldschmidt with the New York Yankees to make a significant move.

Signing him for a one-year deal is a great move by the Yankees. His addition to the team bolsters a strong presence in the corner infield and balances the team lineup too. Based on reports, there is a probable chance of signing Arenado as well. Both Paul and Nolan share a close bond as they played together for the Cardinals.

The blockbuster signing by the Yankees hints towards a trade with Paul’s close friend for $21 million. Paul’s presence in the team can present a strong influence on Arenado to remove the no-trade clause. He could be a great option for the third base position. It would allow them to shift Jazz Chisholm Jr. to his usual second-base position. However, it is yet to be seen whether he would be able to reunite with his former teammate in the Yankees or not.
