The 2023 regular season has been up and down for the Los Angeles Angels so far. Although Mike Trout is batting well to start the season, the Angels have only won 5 of their 10 games. Furthermore, even Shohei Ohtani is putting up historic numbers, only for the Angels to lose games.

But despite a somewhat rough start,  Angels fans also have something to look forward to. The team introduced a new samurai-inspired helmet as their home run celebration. Trout debuted it following a two-run home run. Following the introduction of the helmet, some new details have popped up about it.

The Los Angeles Angels recently introduced a samurai helmet as their newest dugout celebration for home runs. New details about the helmet have been shared by Twitter user Jeffrey J. Hall. The helmet was made by an armor maker called Marutake Sangyo, who is based in Kagoshima. Furthermore, it cost 330,000 Japanese Yen or $2500 to create. Mike Trout was the first to wear it following a two-run home run against the Toronto Blue Jays.

In the Tweet, Hall said, “A 330,000 yen ($2500) samurai helmet created by Kagoshima-based armor maker Marutake Sangyo was used as the Los Angeles Angels’ “home run hat” today. Here is Mike Trout putting it on after hitting a 2 run homer.” In a reply to his own Tweet, he further said, “the helmet idea came from quality assurance coach Tim Buss and Ohtani Shohei liked the idea, so his interpreter Mizuhara Ippei helped arrange for an original helmet to be made for the team.”

The Angels had a cowboy hat as part of their dugout celebrations last season. It will be interesting to see how many times the Angels players will get to wear this new Samurai helmet. There is still hope for the season despite early struggles.

Mike Trout and the Angels are aiming for the postseason

The aim for the Los Angeles Angels has been clear from the beginning, to make the postseason this year. They have not been to the playoffs since 2014. Furthermore, Mike Trout and Shohei Ohtani are the only active MVP’s who have not won a playoff game yet. This may be Trout’s best chance as Ohtani is going to be a free agent after the 2023 season.
