The New York Mets’ talks with their polar bear Pete Alonso have come to a deadlock. Due to multiple disagreements regarding his pay, the negotiations failed. Amid the stalled talks, a top insider suggests him to sign a struggling AL West Side like the Seattle Mariners. Pete’s agent has a say on what might have gone wrong with the negotiation.

Guess what! Pete Alonso’s agent Scott Boras mentioned that a $200 million contract was expected for him. This resulted in differences between the Mets and Alonso. Meanwhile, as per reports, the suggestions for him to join the Seattle Mariners might come true. Their four first basemen were out of form, and signing Alonso could be a significant upgrade. On the other hand, the Boston Red Sox also have their eyes on Pete.

Amid these disagreements, Pete should look for an AL West Side that might be struggling. The Mariners missed the playoffs with a record of 85-77 and even ended up 3.5 games behind the Houston Astros. They have a major gap in defense, and Alonso might be the perfect fit out there. The Mets have rejected Pete Alonso’s demand for a $200 million extension. He also wants a longer contract, which they are unwilling to invest in because he is already 30 years old.

Should the Mets let go of Alonso, or is he worth the $200 million price tag?

A top insider Paul Hembo, in an ongoing discussion with Buster Olney said, “Pete Alonso should stay with the Mariners. Luke Raley was great last year at the base, but Mitch Haniger was wholly unsatisfactory.” He highlights the need for a change in the lineup. “We also know that the ballpark has been the most pitcher-friendly by a considerable margin, and Pete Alonso’s power at the ballpark is massive. He’s got 126 home runs in six seasons of the major league, and he would fit there beautifully.” But why would Pete leave the Mets and sign a deal with the Mariners for just $90 million?

To get him in their lineup, the Seattle Mariners could get into a bidding war against New York Mets’ owner Steve Cohen. They might even have to pay more than $100 million for a shorter contract. However, considering the need for an upgrade, the Mariners might not leave any stone unturned to make the deal possible. While their four first basemen got 15 home runs, Alonso alone made 34 homers last season. Thus, the addition of the four-time All-Star would give an added boost to the Mariners seeking to strengthen their offensive support around Cal Raleigh, Randy Arozarena, and Julio Rodriguez. Even though Alonso might sign the Seattle Mariners, he has another taker—the Boston Red Sox.

Boston Red Sox shows interest in the polar bear

The Boston Red Sox could benefit from Pete Alonso’s impressive bat. They already have their Green Monster, and with Alonso, they would be a strong force to reckon it. The Red Sox’s massive lineup already boasts of favorites like Rafael Devers and Jarren Duran. Pete’s addition could further improve their ability in the field. His batting average of.240 in the last season, with an OBP of.329, .459 slugging percentage, and 34 home runs, make his capabilities unquestionable. Isn’t it, but at what cost?

If the Boston Red Sox manages to sign Pete Alonso, they might need to move Triston Casas to the designated hitter. They could also look for other trade options for some young first baseman options. However, his addition could provide much-needed right-handed balance and power to the lineup. However, it is still unclear if the contract will fit into the future plans or if there may be any positional repercussions.

In the heat of trade talks, the Mets have their eye on the Red Sox’s young talent, Triston Casas. With a great .800 OPS last season, he has proved his mettle and cemented his position in the team. Considering that the Mets are willing to trade Alonso, he might be a long-term solution for them. However, the odds are slim that the Red Sox will let him go.
