Brendan Kuty of The Athletic posted a list of players he feels are most likely to be chopped off by the Yankees this year. He had a variety of reasons for deciding these players.

Clarke Schmidt

The first name was of the starting pitcher, Clarke Schmidt. The ace had a breakthrough season in 2023 The biggest point, though is that he’d be arbitration-eligible this year. His salary is expected to be $2.6 million. Teams would love to have a proven starter at that little salary. So, he can be used as an attractive option.

Michael King

Michael King is a surprising name. In the 8 games he started, his ERA was 1.88. The Yankees love him but he surely has a high demand in the market. They can use him for bigger trades even if they’d love to keep him. Especially if they manage to add quality pitching free agents to their squad.

Kyle Higashioka

The Bronx Bombers have 6 catchers on their roster. Kyle Higashioka has already lost his place to Austin Wells, their top prospect. He is their longest-tenured player, and this could be the end for him. In 2023, his defensive runs prevented were 11.7. Others in the league would want a player like him.
